Description

  • Only one previous owner
  • Warranted 85,000 miles
  • Full service history
  • Very high spec sheet
  • Will come with brand new MOT

Porsche 997 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 sports car manufactured and sold by the German automobile manufacturer Porsche between 2004 (as Model Year 2005) and 2013. The all-wheel drive Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, which we have here, began to be delivered to customers in November 2005 with this early example being delivered to its one and only previous owner in May 2006.

The 997 was an evolution of the preceding 996, with the most significant changes being interior and exterior styling, the most notable being the replacement of the “fried egg” headlamps used on the 996 with the classic “bug eye” units. Larger 18-inch wheels were fitted as standard, although our example was upgraded to the 19-inch Carrera Classic Alloys.  Other engineering changes include slightly increased power; however, the car is technically very similar to its predecessor. This new S version was offered, with additional power from a slightly larger 3.8 engine, sports suspension, and sports exhaust.

The Porsche 997 received mostly positive reviews from the worldwide motoring press; even Jeremy Clarkson, a known detractor of the brand  noted that the 997 will “make love to your fingertips and stir your soul.”

Our vendor, who has owned the car for six years advises that he originally purchased it from his local Porsche dealership in Surrey with forty-two thousand miles on the clock.  It is noticeable to mention that during the pre-delivery inspection, they carried out a full engine management scan and engine check which confirmed the condition of the engine with the report coming back with a clean bill of health and no evidence of “redline” abuse whatsoever.

The same dealership also originally supplied the car from new to the only previous owner, they also serviced the car throughout its life and have an unrivalled knowledge of this 997 from day one to date.  With a full-service history from Cridford’s (except for a couple of minor services carried out at a local specialist during Covid). Including the last the last major service in November which included the renewing of the MOT and rectification of any other issues that needed attention – to which we will come further on within this article.

Both keys are still present, along with a folder containing every single invoice during its lifetime, it even has the original bill of sale that outlines the plethora of optional extras that were selected on the already extensive spec list.  As you would expect of such a great example, everything that was supplied with this car is still present, including the original toolkit, manuals and service books.  The car will also come with a brand new MOT.

The car does have a tracker installed which comes with all the relevant documentation so that the new owner can easily renew this if they so choose.

As alluded to above the spec list on this particular Porsche 997 is immensely impressive

  • Automatic with tiptronic gearbox and steering wheel ‘paddle’ change
  • 19″ Carrera Classic Alloys, just completely refurbished
  • Porsche switchable sports exhaust
  • Sport Chrono package
  • Hard back sports seats
  • BOSE surround sound system with integrated Pioneer Apple Play state of art entertainment system
  • Heated Seats
  • Rear part assist
  • Rain sensitive wipers
  • Self-dimming exterior and rear-view mirrors
  • Three spoke multi-function steering wheel trimmed in leather
  • Full leather trimmed dashboard
  • Xenon Lights
  • Porsche active suspension management
  • Porsche stability management
  • Automatic air conditioning and climate control
  • Detachable wind deflector

After six years of ownership and a change of circumstances which has led to the car only being driven a couple of thousand miles in the last two years, our vendor has decided to give a new lucky owner the opportunity to own and enjoy this wonderful example.

Exterior

The 997 represented a significant relaunch of the 911 that included a major body restyling and interior update, while using much of the rolling chassis of the outgoing 996.

As with all new 911s, Carrera S undoubtedly offered a better package than the previous models and the restyle in particular gave the 997 a more classic attractiveness, something that was arguably missing on the 996.

As you have read already, this lovely example has been thoroughly pampered and throughout its life has wanted for nothing.  So as expected, bar a couple of the usual issues which we will come back to, this 997 presents wonderfully in Basalt Black with no dents, scuffs or scratches around the bodywork other than a slight crazing in the front bumper paintwork and the usual scuff on the lower lip below the number plate, there are also stone chips on the nosecone and into the front edge of the bonnet.

Our vendor did explain that he had considered on getting these rectified but decided that it would be better to sell the 997 in its original factory condition rather than it be questioned as to why the front bumper had been repainted, hopefully providing a more honest picture of this fantastic unmolested example.

Lastly the roof does have the usual fold marks but they are only superficial but the roof was serviced at its last major service so works perfectly and is showing no other signs of wear or issues.

Interior

As you would expect from a German supercar the interior is stunning and extremely well built, the reliability of everything from the heated seats to the automatic air conditioning and climate control work as they should.  In fact, the going back to the seats, the hard back full leather heated seats are in fantastic condition, they match leather door cards and do show some slight finger nail marks behind the handles, but these will likely come out with a touch of leather treatment.  One of the many options was the full leather trimmed dashboard that is in fantastic condition, the optional and detachable wind deflector does a wonderful job but has unfortunately left some marks on the back of the hard back seats but is not noticeable unless the seats are tilted forward, see the images.

It is also prudent to share that the common issue of the left heater switch wear is evident but every switch and button work as they should and operate the ancillaries as they should.  Like we said, German engineering at its best.

It really is a lovely place to be and just oozes class and comfort.  How can you improve such a well-engineered and designed interior, well our vendor managed just that in replacing the original Porsche Entertainment System with a more modern and fit for purpose Pioneer unit, professionally fitted at the cost of £1500. It now has everything you would expect, including Bluetooth connectivity and apple play and is connected to the state-of-the-art Bose surround sound system that you will still be able to hear with the roof down and travelling at speed.  It is even connected to the original steering wheel controls.  The original unit will be supplied with the car and the satnav and CD changer units are still in the storage area so it can all be returned to its original configuration should you choose to do this.

Like we said, what more could you ask for?

Engine

To the heart of the car….  Slide into that sumptuous interior and marvel at the fact you are in the flagship model from this famous brand, once you have control of your senses turn the ignition key and lose them all over again as the engine fires up…. Wow!

Fitted with a high-pressure direct injection system for its evergreen 3.8-litre six-cylinder boxer engine, which kicks out a gutsy 385bhp and 310lb ft, and mated to a Tiptronic automatic gearbox it will get you to 60mph in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of close to 190 mph.  This really is a serious car that is worthy of the famous Carrera S moniker.

Already a bulletproof engine with years of development, it is fair to say that at less than 86k on the odometer it has barely been run in, especially when considering the impeccable service history that is documented in the service book and that comprehensive folder of invoices.

New ignition coil packs were fitted at the last scheduled major service which was carried out in November at 82k mileage so it is running perfectly and will deliver that supercar excitement for many years to come.

Few supercars are quicker or more accomplished than the 911 Carrera 4S. Equally few are as engaging or reassuring.  So should you be inclined to bid on this baby you truly are moving into supercar territory.

Wheels Tyres Suspension and other

This 4S also gets the Porsche Active Suspension Management active dampers as standard.  It’s reassuringly stable at speed, and feels unflappable in just about every situation. The steering is perfectly weighted and precise, plus it benefits from the same exceptional feedback that marks out the latest two-wheel-drive 911s.

Being the 4S it has the ability to send power to the front wheels and really comes into its own when the road is slippery. Initially, the 4S feels like a traditional rear-driven 911, but on the exit of tighter bends or as rear grip ebbs away under hard acceleration, just the right amount of drive is transferred to the front to maintain grip and limit stability control intervention.  Truly sublime.

Fitted with the optional 19-inch Carrera Classic alloys that have recently been refurbished and Michelin Pilot Sports that can be described as almost new, the rears 305/30/19s were fitted less than 6k miles ago and the front 235/35/19s not long before.

The front brake disks and pads were also renewed in 2020 and with such low mileage in the last few years could be described as virtually new you know there are no worries in the stopping department, especially for a car with such speed and acceleration.

As previously mentioned, this example has wanted for nothing and as such during its last service it benefitted from having inner track rod joints, the track rod ends, the front coil springs and top mounts replaced so it is driving exactly as it has been described above and as it did when it left the factory.

Our view

What else can be said about the 911 Porsche that has not been said before? We won’t bore you with a ton of superlatives as the article above has already shared what this stunningly fast supercar is all about.  What we will tell you is that you will be bidding on an extremely impressive, one previous owner, example that has been maintained and known by the same Porsche specialist all its life.  Giving you the security and confidence that you are about to join supercar ownership without all the worry and possible future expense that often niggles in the back of your mind when buying a flagship sports car of this ilk.

A near on £100k car for a fraction of the price, what’s not to like, we urge you not to miss out on this stunning example.

 Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.
