The Morris Minor is more than worthy of consideration as a first foray into the world of classic car ownership, being relatively reliable, cheap to repair and – above all – utterly charming.

Our series 3 two door model not only ticks all those boxes but is probably one of the best you will find on the market today.

History

Our vendor who is an avid watch collector came across this wonderful little Morris Minor in what can only be described as a “Barn Find”.  We know, it’s a term that is bandied around far too often but this can actually be mentioned in that exact bracket.

Whilst in Stratford upon Avon visiting Sue, the previous owner, to discuss the purchase of her late husband’s watch collection, the Minor was spotted tucked away in her rented garage.

After some discussion it came to light that the Minor had been stored there for longer than Sue could remember, it also came to light that the rented garage needed to be vacated so it had to be moved.  It was at this point that a deal was struck and the Morris Minor was soon heading back to our vendor’s home.

Our vendor knew at once it needed to be saved and was soon on the phone to his trusted restorer who went to work, bringing her to the condition that we see today.

Spending eight months being restored you would think she would be used as much as possible, as with so many cases the realisation that time is extremely precious means she has been used sparingly since the restoration.

Our vendor has now come to the conclusion that she really does need to be used or all the fine work and cost of the full restoration will not have been worthwhile, in his words “it will be a crying shame for her to just get stored again.”

The Minor will be supplied with a massive document pack that will include around 16 MOTs and invoices covering the thousands spent on the restoration plus plenty from its four previous ownerships.  There is also a collection of photographs that were taken during the restoration.

Inside

The interior keeps the elegant original simplicity imagined by the genius of Issigonis. As you can see from the images the dash looks fantastic with its fresh paint and original Smiths odometer and original switchgear.

A wonderful period wooden steering wheel with obligatory Morris centre boss was fitted during the restoration.

Slide into the driver’s seat and you will notice that both the front and rear seats have all been retrimmed and are looking brand new. The door cards and trim cards are in fantastic condition, even the carpets were all renewed at the time of the restoration.

Looking past that wooden steering wheel you will spot the ignition key nestled between the conveniently labelled array of switches and levers. Our vendor confirms that everything works as it should with only a slightly temperamental fuel gauge needing some attention.  There is also a very usable CD radio fitted should you prefer music to the wonderful 1098cc A series engine soundtrack!

The fitted sunroof works as it should with no rips or tears visible and in its minimal usage since the restoration has shown no signs of leaking.  Great news if you plan to take this to the odd Classic Car Show in our wonderfully reliable British summer.

Raise the boot lid and you’ll see from the images, the boot area is all as it should be, including the original tool kit and wooden boarding.

Outside

As you can see from the images in our gallery the stunning orange paintwork is in wonderful condition, as you expect from such a recent restoration there are no dents, scuffs or blemishes to be seen.  The shut lines are all as they should be, again, as to be expected from a £12k restoration.

The brightwork is in fantastic condition around the headlights, bumpers and mirrors with only the slightest of ageing showing through, even the smaller brightwork has held up exceptionally well with some minor age related marks on the door handles and badges etc.

Like we previously mentioned, this really is a tip top example that will be the star of the show should you decide to enjoy it that way.

Mechanicals

In 1962 the Morris Minor was upgraded to an increased engine capacity of 1098cc while gaining a stronger gearbox and bigger brakes. This later car is about as usable as they come.

Again, the mechanicals on this Morris Minor have had the full recon treatment and are running as sweetly now as they ever have.  The 1098cc engine pulls cleanly and swiftly as expected and starts as easy as 1, pull out the choke, 2 pump the accelerator and 3, twist the key.  It’s as easy as that, no mean feat for a sixty year old engine.  To be fair it really should be expected as these little A series engines really are as bulletproof as you are going to get, even without so much attention spent on it, as this one has.

Fully serviced in September 2022 and with an invoice in the pack showing that the gearbox was reconditioned and a new clutch was fitted to the tune of £1,048 in August 2021 you will expect to enjoy trouble free driving for quite some time.

Even prior to its long storage period you can see from the thousands spent that this has been a well maintained little car

The wheels, although in need of a wash are in wonderful condition as they were also refurbished during the restoration, the tyres are virtually new and all the running gear has been thoroughly checked and replaced or refurbed as needed during the restoration.

As expected it drives supremely with no untoward knocks, squeaks or rattles.

Our view

Charming, charismatic and fun, bags of it. Anyone will tell you how much fun these cars are to own. People will smile, wave and even give way at junctions. When you stop, they are guaranteed to want a chat.

As previously mentioned, this 1098cc version really is as usable as they come, arguably the best example if you plan on using it regularly

With thousands spent and looking as good now as it did 60 years ago you really do need to pop this at the top of your list should you be on the lookout for one of these fun packed little classics.

Good luck bidding. Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
