Description

  • Extremely Rare
  • UK registered with V5

  • Absolutely stunning example

The Cushman Eagle was by far the most desirable scooter in the USA in the 1950s. The designers at the American company had struck upon the idea of releasing a scooter that included all the design hallmarks of the big American motorcycles of the day built by Harley-Davidson and Indian. This ensured that every red-blooded teenage boy (and more than a few teenage girls) would lay awake at night dreaming of owning their own Cushman Eagle Scooter– with its contoured fenders, teardrop fuel tank, sprung saddle, wide handlebars, tubular steel frame, and most importantly – its air-cooled flathead engine.

The example we have here is absolutely stunning as immediately prior to its importation it was fully restored, just look at the images.

Our vendor came to own it by taking it as a part exchange with the intention of having some fun, taking it to shows and generally using it sparingly to bomb about on.

Unfortunately, the impulse purchase did not quite work out as he hoped as his riding ambition did not quite meet his ability, his dodgy leg put paid to that, so has admitted to himself that he will not ride it as much as he had hoped, hence such a rare beast coming to market.

We do know that it arrived in the UK in April this year and as such still has a copy of the title document and all the import and paid taxes documentation, the previous owner who imported it promised to send the manuals and invoices that came with it from the USA but unfortunately, they did not arrive and on chasing them the guy had moved house.

(NB: When an imported vehicle is registered with DVLA  – they must have the original title from the country of export. DVLA then send it back to the original state, our vendor has a copy of this title document to show it’s legitimacy.)

The bike is now registered in our vendors name, with a UK V5, and as such has an age-related plate issued, he is unaware if it is transferrable but if it is it is probably worth a few quid on its own, either way the new owner can find out should they wish to.

Pop one of the two keys into the ignition and open the choke and depress the pedal and you are away.  It is running and sounds great but really has not been ridden since its importation and ultimately its rebuild so a minor tune up will do it good.  It was obviously serviced during the full engine rebuild and is in need of slight running in but it still currently rides well as it is.  All the lights are working correctly in fact everything works as it should bar the horn which is in place but seems to need reconnecting, our vendor has not tried but thinks it may have been an oversight during the rebuild, either way the wires are there so at some point will need to be attached to the horn.

Being totally restored, you would expect the metallic green paintwork to be gleaming and you won’t be disappointed, it is stunning.  The chrome work is tip top with no pitting or rust anywhere, in fact it looks brand new.

The four stroke 318cc engine and two speed gearbox will get you up to 84kph, around 50mph in our money, but it will also return 74 mpg which is not to be sniffed at with the cost of fuel these days.  As you can see and would expect, the engine is in spotless condition to match the rest of the bike. The scooter could just do with a mini service according to our vendor – so a quick job to replace the  fuel etc.

Although the bike has been spectacularly restored our vendor has mentioned there are a couple of tiny chips that are believed to have happened during its transportation or unloading from its journey across the Atlantic, either way they do not detract from how wonderfully restored this bike is, again, just look at the images.

You will struggle to find another one, in any condition, in the UK these days but that doesn’t mean parts are unobtainable, you can even still pick up extras such as Panniers, even a rear seat should you choose to.

Our view

Incredibly rare on our shores but extremely exclusive in the USA these Cushman Eagle Scooters are fantastic bikes that are a whole heap of fun.

Now fully registered in the UK and ready to enjoy for an amount that won’t break the bank, or just keep it as an investment as it is always going to be a great talking point in anyone’s collection.

Being fully restored and showroom condition you could actually keep it in your kitchen, it is that clean, as previously mentioned not a lot of money buys you this rare machine.

Vehicle Location: Blackpool, Lancs, FY3 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

 Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
