Description

  • UNSOLD at auction January 2023
  • Full body restoration in 2015
  • More recent engine rebuild
  • Huge folder of invoices
  • New clutch
  • Heritage Certificate
  • Fabulous condition

Introduced in 1962, as an open-top Roadster only, the MGB went on to become the UK’s most popular sports cars. That popularity today sees no signs of diminishing, they are such a great classic car. Multiple owners’ clubs and an entire industry has built up around the MGB.

The final evolution of the MGB were the late ‘Rubber Bumper’ models, known for their large polyurethane front and rear end that were added in order to meet legislation in the USA. For some time, the rubber bumper models lived in the shadow of earlier MGBs. Not anymore. A good rubber bumper car is now an uncommon sight and very much sought-after in its own right. This one is a rare gem.

History

  • Heritage Certificate
  • Restored in 2015
  • First registered 2 December 1974
  • Over £3,000 spent on engine in November 2022
  • New clutch

It has been lightly used whilst our vendor has owned it, but nevertheless he has spent a tidy sum on it, along with the resto in 2015 which offers the next owner considerable peace of mind.

Inside

The interior of this MGB is very smart, original and loads of new items.

  • New carpets
  • New door cards
  • Black vinyl seats
  • Tonneau cover
  • New wood trimmed steering wheel

Inside, everything is as it should be and all in good working order. The dash, dials and controls all look good and operate correctly. The seats are very good as you can see for yourself from the images. The carpets are also all very good, as are the door cards.

Outside

  • In Flame Red
  • The Minilites / Dunlops were fitted less than 1000 miles ago
  • Very good condition

The accursed enemy of any classic car enthusiast is tin-worm or the fear of it. We’ll say just two words about that and in particular this MGB Roadster – look underneath.

We haven’t seen an MGB Roadster looks this clean underneath and indeed up top for a very long time. It is exceptional.

Whoever restored it and then finished it off has done a very good job. The shut lines, door, bonnet and boot gaps are all clean and consistent. Structurally, as you can see the sills, chassis, outriggers, A-pillars are all clean and tidy.

And to give even more peace of mind we understand the MGB Roadster was comprehensively rust proofed and then sealed. Could you ask for any more?

Mechanicals

  • Very recent full stainless steel exhaust fitted
  • £3,000 ‘refresh’ on the engine in November 2022
  • New clutch
  • Electronic ignition
  • New Gaz shockers at the rear
  • Overdrive

The classic MGB B-Series 1800cc engine is as strong as anything and a good one like this reminds you of just how good a well maintained four-cylinder engine can be. This one had a £3,000 refresh by our vendor recently by a company in Oxford. It now runs on unleaded fuel.

The engine bay is as tidy as we’ve seen for a good while with new ancillaries fitted.

This MGB Roadster runs and drive ‘superbly’ we’re told and we bet it does.

Please note that the odometer reads 49k miles, we do not warranty mileage so please make your own enquiries.

Bottom line

Affordable, great to drive and easy to live with.

MGB Roadsters in this condition are not as common as you might think. The body is free from fear. The engine and mechanicals have all been expensively refreshed. And the interior has new parts and is in great condition. It means the Roadster wants for nothing, just someone to get in and enjoy it.

It wasn’t expected to come to the market. It was a keeper. Grandchildren have arrived so a four door classic is needed. Personally, I’d get an account with the local taxi firm!

But that means it is reserved to sell not just to be gawped at.

Whether this is your first foray into classic car ownership or one of many, this MGB Roadster is not to be missed. Good luck bidding.

Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Vehicle Location: Stoke on Trent ST7 – it’s the responsibility of the buyer to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
