The Fiesta XR2 Mk1. The definitive and classic hot hatch. A unique combination of style, performance, and practicality. Nothing sums up 80s classic cars quite as well as the XR2. The often recent astonishing values of classics wearing the blue oval are making everyone think. This XR2 is being sold by a sensible vendor. That approach makes it almost nailed-on this one is going to a new owner at the conclusion of this auction.

History

Our vendor has owned for several months. Like many of us he tells us “he always wanted one” in part, because he has very good memories of his dad picking up from school in his one. So off he went and found this one in Scotland where it had been stored for a number of years. He then set about to make it ready to enjoy.

Outside

The XR2’s distinctive lines and sporty additions make it instantly recognisable. Its compact size and lightweight construction make it nimble and agile on the road. The  striking paint colours and decals make it standout in any setting. Our vendor tells us it usually draws a small gathering wherever it stops.

This XR2 was originally Black. At some point it its life it has been fully professionally repainted in Diamond White. It has just returned from a professional paint shop who our vendor instructed to address a couple of small areas. He hasn’t overdone it though. There are still the odd age related mark, which the new owner can deal with or live with. Personally.. we’d leave them.

Inside

The Fiesta XR2 surprises with its spacious interior. Its comfortable and the sporty seats offer good support for a lively little classic car like this. The dashboard is easy to read, with all essential gauges and switches within easy reach. The XR2’s large windows offer good visibility. The seats, door cards, carpet and dash are all in good order. The seats could do with a clean if we were being picky. If he gets a chance before the lucky new owner arrives he said he’ll give it a clean – no promises though!

As with all Fords of a certain age, they can go a bit crusty underneath. This XR2 needed attention in the usual water-trap around the rear sub frame mounts. That work has been carried out professionally and the XR2 will come with new MOT to prove it is all sound.

Mechanically

The XR2 is powered by a 1.6-litrr four-cylinder engine that pushes out a lively 84 bhp and 89 lb-ft of torque. These numbers may seem modest by modern standards. However, the Fiesta’s light weight means that it can still accelerate from 0-60 mph in around 9.0 seconds. Add to that precise steering, agile suspension and wide track and the perfectly balanced XR2 really does feel like a pocket rocket.

In summary

MkI XR2s are not easy to find. Rare survivors like this always get a lot of interest. The classic design, lively engine, and agile handling make it a joy to drive. It is massively practical too, making it a reliable daily driver if you wanted.

The XR2’s affordability also makes it an attractive option for collectors on a budget. It is a classic for a reason and very easy to see why they are tremendously  popular among enthusiasts and collectors alike.

The best bit? This XR2 has to make room for another classic our vendor always wanted. It is reserved at a figure that means it will definitely be finding a new home.

Good luck bidding.

Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Vehicle Location: Bedford, Beds MK41 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
