The Pinzgauer is a family of high-mobility all-terrain 4WD and 6WD military utility vehicles. The vehicle was originally developed in the late 1960s and manufactured by Steyr-Daimler-Puch of Graz, Austria, and named after the Pinzgauer, an Austrian breed of cattle.

The Pinzgauer 716

Originally imaged in its original red paintwork parked outside an ex-RAF radar station you can see it has been transformed into the beauty it is today.  Very rarely coming to market in this fully restored condition and even more rare to find in right hand drive, this one comes to us from a very enthusiastic collector of unusual vehicles.  Having decided to reduce his collection, we are lucky enough to present what we believe is probably one of the best examples of this highly capable off-roader.  In fact, touted in some circles as the world’s best off-roader we can see why the UK, German and USA military still uses them, and some lucky bidder is about to learn why.

Purchasing the Pinzgauer three years ago, our vendor immediately went on to restore and refurbish the 716 bring it up to the fantastic condition it is now in.  Passing its last three MOTs without advisories and having a current one that expires in October this year, just confirms how well maintained this fantastic truck is.

Just viewing the images will show how well the bodywork has been looked after, with a full respray carried out eighteen months ago using the commercial, highly durable, Raptor protective paint coating that will look that way for many more years.  Fitted with a full-length roof rack, Warn Zeon 12-S Platinum Winch (Retailing at over £3k alone), full tow bar and electrics and less than one hundred and fifty miles ago, five brand new tyres, it is fully loaded with extras.

The current interior installation contains five seats in great condition, all fitted with seat belts.  Should you decide to use this versatile vehicle for a different purpose, maybe a camper? Then these seats are easily removed to leave a great space to work with.  The utilitarian nature of the cab is easy to navigate, and our vendor has shared that everything works as it should, including a great heater (another rarity).

Fitted with the highly sought after six-cylinder Volkswagen 2.4 litre Turbo Diesel engine that, as you can see from the video, starts first time and runs perfectly, arguably the best engine to be fitted to these Pinzgauers.  Mated to an automatic gearbox it pulls just as it should, powerfully and smoothly.  Another sought after option of 12-volt electrics are feeding the ancillaries.

The mechanicals were treated to a full overhaul less than 1,000 miles ago by a Specialist Steyr-Puch dealer which deemed this 716 as “ready for use” –  this fantastic example is genuinely wanting for nothing.

Our View

This Pinzgauer 716 is a serious contender for off-roader of the year, it really has unlimited options. Hire it out for TV work, convert it into a Camper or just drive it as it is. If it were us we would leave it as it is as, it is such a fantastic example, it really would be a shame to change it – but you pay your money, you can do what you choose.  Either way, being such a pampered Pinzgauer with so much money spent restoring and maintaining it plus thousands in extras, you will struggle to find a better example.

A genuine Pinzgauer 716 with an interesting history and an even more interesting future, you’d better get bidding. Good luck!

Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Vehicle Location:  Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire BD19 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
