  • MOT to August 2023
  • 5.7 litres of V8 Muscle
  • New rear disks and pads

The fourth-generation Camaro debuted in 1993 on an updated F-body platform. It retained the same characteristics since its introduction in 1967: a coupé body style with 2+2 seating (with an optional T-top roof), rear-wheel drive, pushrod 6-cylinder and V8 engines. A 350 MPFI (LT1) Small Block V-8 engine, which was introduced in the Corvette in 1992, was standard in the Z28. Optional equipment included all-speed traction control and a new six-speed T-56 manual transmission; the 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission was standard on the Z28.  Anti-lock brakes were standard equipment on all Camaros.

As you would expect, this Chevrolet Camaro Z28 was built in America but is believed to have been imported new in 1994 and immediately registered in the UK, it eventually found its way to our vendor who has enjoyed the experience of true American muscle with the beast of a V8 running faultlessly, in fact it has been faultless in all areas within the time that he has owned it.  Fortunately for those interested parties, as with all petrol heads, something else has caught his eye and it is now time to sell to fund that new purchase.

Unfortunately, there is not a great deal of paperwork with this Chevrolet Camaro Z28 other than a handful of MOTs, the V5 and another handful of invoices.  The current MOT runs until 31st August 2023.

While the styling of the new fourth generation Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is aggressive, it is also smooth, subtle and curvaceous. Its dramatic appearance is possible through the use of plastic compound material that allows the construction of complex shapes which would not be possible with steel.  This explains why there is no rust or dents around the composite bodywork on the vehicle.  With only the bonnet and rear quarter panels made of steel. From its low bonnet line, steep windshield, smooth roofline, back to its integral spoiler it states performance!

On closer inspection the car is not perfect, what twenty-eight-year-old car is?  But let’s not get too worried it needs a close inspection to notice the tiny five pence size dent on the off side rear quarter, there is also a few light crazing cracks on the nosecone, these are literally in the paintwork not the composite itself.  The last thing to note is that the rear spoiler also has crazing within the laquear so it could do with a little attention.  In fact, with the front bumper and spoiler repainted you will have a near on perfect looking Camaro.

The underneath has been thoroughly cleaned and tidied up with any issues being rectified and the surface rust that is found on all cars of this age removed and treated with paint or underseal.

The Targa roof glass is wonderfully convenient and detach and refit as they should and add a wonderful convenience when the weather allows.  Conveniently stored in the boot and easy to remove we suspect they will be stored more than fitted.

The Camaro’s cockpit has been ergonomically designed to ensure that all controls and instruments are visible and comfortably at hand.  The large electric, adjustable seats in front provide support for comfortable all-day driving, and the small contoured ones in back allow seating for four.  When more storage space is needed, folding down the rear seats almost doubles the trunk space, plus there are several small storage areas.  Solar-Ray glass all-around reduces glare, while the unique aerodynamically designed windshield wipers are designed to operate efficiently at high speeds. Another aerodynamic exercise is the design treatment in the side view mirror areas that improves the appearance as it smooths out the airflow and reduces wind noise.  Surprisingly well engineered and designed for an American car.

Our vendor has shared that all the dashboard switches work as they should and with the exception of the air con operate all their related ancillaries as they should.  Unfortunately, the air con pump and compressor have been removed at some point but let’s be honest, with that Targa roof, who needs air con?

As can be seen in the images the usual bolster wear to the drivers front seat is present, although it has been temporarily stitched to reduce further wear.  Everything else about the four seats is great with firm sponge and hardly any evidence of wear anywhere else.

The door cards are in great condition with the only blemish being evidence in the drivers door pad that a tweeter had been fitted at some point but alas is now long gone.

The only other point to mention is that the key remote no longer works the central locking remotely, it can be operated by the switch inside the car so is not really that big of a deal.

The 350 bhp 5.7 V8 is where it is at with these American muscle cars, the anticipation of starting that big V8 is realised with a turn of the key and wow, as you expect from nearly six litres of V8 muscle the glorious engine lets you know you are about to experience a serious piece of engineering.

Being American and V8 there isn’t a lot to worry you about these engines as they really are pretty much bulletproof and to add to that our vendor carried out service in January that included all the fluids, including the gearbox and well as the coolant being replaced three in August.

In our vendors words he has had no issue since he has owned it and the 85,000 mile engine runs like a dream.

Wheels Tyres Suspension and other

Camaro’s development engineers designed a base suspension system that is sporting without being unduly harsh. The new more rigid chassis practically eliminates body flex and insures a poised, balanced and supple ride. While the rear driveline received improvements, a solid rear axle rather than an independent rear suspension has been retained. Handling and safety have been improved by adopting a rack-and-pinion power steering unit, as well as four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking.

Speaking of the braking, our vendor has renewed the rear brake disks and pads and can confirm that the front are in great condition, stopping the big muscle car as they should.

The wheels do have some minor kerb damage and the previous owner saw fit to cover that with red “go faster” tape that does not detract from its looks.  With refurbishment of wheels not costing an arm and a leg these days you could quite easily add that to the very small list of to-dos so that you have a very, very nice example of these fantastic muscle cars.  All the tyres were replaced shortly before our vendor took ownership and still have a great deal of tread available to plant that 350hp to the road.

With no obvious knocks or niggles the car drives as you would expect and as it should, just sit back and use that wonderful V8 as you should and you will have no problems whatsoever.

Our view

Fitting perfectly in the “American Muscle” category or just used as a daily driver, this Chevrolet Camaro Z28 has got the true versatility that these cars were originally designed to deliver.  Still impressively solid and structural you will be hard pressed to find one in this condition that does not need hours of welding and a regular breakdown service to get you home.  A very lucky bidder is going to snap up a wonderful example of what has become one of the most iconic “American Cars” of any era.  All for a very reasonable reserve and a totally accessible entry to the world of American muscle cars.  Good luck!

Vehicle Location: West Byfleet, Surrey, KT14 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

 Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
