Description

  • 3.0-litre V6 engine
  • Griffin Limited Edition
  • Only 78,000 miles
  • Original Sales Invoice
  • Two previous owners

It is great to see a classic Saab. Swedish style. Legendary engineering. Saab’s have now achieved near cult status. Especially the limited edition models and none less so the Saab 9000 Griffin. Very few were built. Even less remain.

Background

When GM took a stake in Saab, they wanted to go head-to-head with BMW and Mercedes. They decided to use the 9000 platform. The CS and CD models were already in play. The manufacturer took that already successful platform and looked again. They then opened the cupboard at Saab marked ‘Factory Options’, emptied it and threw them all at the Griffin.

It has everything! Not least is 210bhp 3.0-ltr V6 engine.

History

  • Two previous owners (and our vendor)
  • The first owner had for c18 years
  • The second owned it for c14 years
  • Yep, they are that good.

This Saab 9000 Griffin was registered 31 March 1996 and sold new via Continental Cars Ltd of Stanstead who were a Saab Main Dealer. It was ordered in Scarab Green, with Sand leather and an auto box.

Inside

As you can see from the images it has every conceivable gadget. We are told by our vendor, “it has no faults”.

The Sand leather front seats could benefit from some leather treatment. But they are in good condition and that is us being picky. It has very nice period feel and look to it

The Walnut dash is in good condition along with the rest of the well spec’d, spacious comfy interior.

Outside

The Saab 9000 Griffin looks smashing. We’ve not been advised of anything untoward, we do ask. The swage lines and door gaps are all clean.

The big safety bumpers are in good order. All the bright work is clean. The lattice style alloys look free from damage.

In the document pack there are four “Corrosion Inspection Services”. Saab are renowned for their build quality and longevity, but these inspections are an added bonus.

Paperwork

As you’d expect from a classic Saab from long term ownership, there is a good deal of paperwork.

  • The original book pack and Saab wallet
  • Owner’s manual
  • Original stamped service book
  • 13 service stamps (from Saab main dealers)
  • 4 further anti-corrosion inspections
  • Big selection of previous MOT certificates
  • History along with collection of invoices for work and servicing through the Saab’s life
  • The original bill of sale
  • Two keys
  • MOT’d until June 2023 – at its last MOT in June 2022, new brake pipes were fitted all round front to back and the engine and gearbox oil was changed
  • The receipts also show that the cam belt and water pump were changed at 67,000 miles – so that’s peace of mind for the new owner

Bottom line

There can be few, if any, Saab 9000 Griffin models on the road in this condition.

Saab fans tend to love their cars. This Griffin has been properly cherished by a long term owners who have clearly loved it.

It’s a one-off. A unique, exciting and enthralling piece of kit. Saab are renowned for their engines. In 3.0-litre V6 flavour it is simply divine.

1990’s classics are where the smart money is. This Griffin is without doubt an up-and-coming 1990s classic. The extensive bundle of invoices gives reassurance that it has been professionally looked after. A classic with great performance and handling to match. It’s brilliant. Don’t miss it.
