Description

  • Low-mileage X308
  • Wonderful condition throughout
  • Extensive service history
  • August MOT with no advisories
  • Recent major service
  • Just 10,800 miles in the last 17 years

Older, big classic Jag saloons had a wonderful rogue-ish air to them. They had the fine quality design, with leather and wood trim. However as second hand cars, many fell into the hands of sheepskin jacketed car dealers. This and The Sweeney did no end of damage to the Jaguar corporate image.

How things have changed. The Jaguar XJ8 series took all the brilliant emotional elements of Jaguar history and made massive steps forward, not least of which was quality. The X308 was transformed into a BMW beating, Mercedes munching success.

That reputation means Jaguar X308s are increasing in value and are now beginning to attract significant enthusiast and collector interest.

Background and paperwork

  • An average of just 650 miles per year since 2005
  • Extensive service history
  • A new MOT last month with no advisories
  • 2 keys

Although similar in looks, to the XJ6 series, the XJ8 represented the mind-set of a new generation of engineers at Jag’s HQ in Coventry. The upgraded design was wonderfully judged and perfectly executed. It led to a Milan panel of experts voting it L’Automobile piu Bella del Mondo – roughly translated to ‘The Most Beautiful Car In The World’. The Mid-landers at HQ must have been made up with that.

The plan was simple. Identify all of the characteristics that turned traditional Mercedes and BMW buyers away from Jaguar and ruthlessly erase them. The plan delivered and the X308 smashed all comers. The Jaguar X308, the last XJ is easily entering classic car status.

Inside

  • Oatmeal leather trim
  • Rich light Maple veneer
  • Hazel carpets
  • Spotless headlining

With this classic Jaguar XJ8  having done low mileage overall and only around 650 miles a year in the last two decades, you’d expect it to be good. It is. Take a look in the Image Gallery.

Even high wear areas such as the bolster, centre console and gear lever are all near perfect. To reinforce that, our vendor has taken a close up image of the stitching on the steering wheel. You’d be hard pressed to find an interior like this.

Overall this interior is in extremely good condition. The new owner will not be disappointed.

Saggy ceilings are common issue on these classics. See for yourself how good this one is. It speaks volumes about the classic XJ8

Outside

The standard of quality continues.

  • Beautiful Sea Frost Green paintwork
  • Five pristine alloy wheels
  • Great fit and finish all round
  • No damage or dents

The XJ V8 makes a big impression. Finished in rare Sea Frost Green it does look marvellous. Thanks to the very low usage and being clearly well looked after it is in very good condition. Our honest vendor has highlighted a miniscule stone chip on the bonnet and one door edge. That isn’t bad for 24 year old classic. You’ll have to look to find them. Overall, the Jaguar looks outstanding, even down to the fine details such as brightwork, trim, lights and badges.

Engine and mechanicals

  • Recent full service
  • MOT pass last month with no advisories
  • Superb V8 engine
  • 0-60 in just over 8.0 sec

Everything about this XJ says that it has been looked after. You can just tell.  With low mileage and very low use in the last 17 years, this Jaguar XJ8 offers a great opportunity to own one of these fantastic Jaguars in exceptional condition. The engine bay is very clean and tidy. The vendor reports the car drives exactly as it should, pulling and driving well.

Additional information

We always ask. This is what our vendor told us about the classic Jaguar XJ8.

“The car is in excellent condition throughout, it has extensive service history. It has just undergone a full service including all filters, new oil and spark plugs and a new 12 month MOT with no advisories. The bodywork is in lovely Sea Frost Green with full oatmeal leather interior all of which is in fantastic condition. The car drives just as a Jaguar should. I have also just put a new high quality battery on the car. It will be supplied with the relevant paperwork and 2 keys, the private plate stays with the car as well.”

Bottom line

  • Great history
  • Low usage
  • Excellent condition
  • Extremely reasonable reserve

The objective for the Jaguar XJ8 Series, was to eliminate all of the excuses to buying British.

Job done. Drop in behind the wheel of an XJ8 and there’s a profound sense of occasion. The Germans just could not recreate that Jag feel. Behind the wheel you’ll feel the history, quality and style of the British marque. Put your foot down and Big Cat roars down the road. It is a daily driver or great second classic car. As an ownership proposition, the XJ8 is miles ahead of its predecessors.

The trickle-down effect from new car to second hand car to classic car is now complete with the XJ8. They are still undervalued by the market right now but XJ8 prices are trending up. A great one like this, well looked with a good history, will make an elegant addition to any driveway, and will only look better and more valuable with age.

Vehicle Location: Derby DE21 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

 Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
