Description

  • UNSOLD at auction January 2023
  • Supercharged quad-cam V8
  • Mercedes-Benz 5 speed 5G Tronic gearbox
  • 370 bhp
  • Guy Salmon & Stratstone Mayfair service history
  • MOT’d until Feb 2024

The supercharged Jaguar XKR is performance, panache, and presence all in a superb British classic sports car capable of 155mph.

Background

The Jaguar Team knew they couldn’t stand still. In the early ’90s a team began working on a new sports car project. Both cost and time were project critical. To save both, the team borrowed and modified the floorplan from the XJS. An existing rear suspension set-up from the saloon Jag was modified, adding all new double wishbone suspension at the front end. An all new 32-valve quad cam V8 engine pushing out 290bhp was popped under the bonnet.

After a successful launch, Jaguar didn’t hang about.

Just two short years later Jaguar decided to up the ante and in 1998 introduced the Jaguar XKR. The V8 quad cam in the classic XKR had a supercharger fitted, giving the car a thundering 370bhp. The Jaguar XKR in standard restricted form was good for 155mph. In (easily) unrestricted form the beast is good for 175mph, allegedly.

History

  • Our vendor has owned since 2016
  • Registered new on 15 March 1999
  • Three former keepers
  • Owned by a Doctor for 15 years
  • Solid service history

Mechanicals

  • This XKR had a new engine fitted, believed to have been done whilst under warranty
  • The later timing chains have also been fitted
  • Rear axle overhauled
  • Guy Salmon & Stratstone Mayfair service history
  • MOT’d until Feb 2024

The super, Supercharged V8 engine runs well. It pulls hard and produces that fabulous sound that only a V8 can when its on-song.

A virtual look under the bonnet, via our Image Gallery, reveals a clean and tidy engine bay.

With the sonorous V8 mated to the modern five speed 5G Tronic gear box, it makes the XKR a joy to drive, plus it comes with a fresh MOT  out to 2nd February 2024 with no advisories.

Interior

  • New headlining
  • Straight stitched Black leather
  • Dark Walnut trim
  • Black interior

The cabin space has a light, bright spacious feeling. In true Jaguar fashion, the XKR interior is a reminder of the manufacturer’s superb attention to detail. Optional extras such as a Harman Kardon sound system, sat nav and folding mirrors make for lovely additions.

With its impressive performance, the XKR is also a comfortable and practical classic. The leather seats are supportive and comfortable, and the interior is spacious enough to accommodate both the driver and passengers

A prime example of Jaguar’s luxury touches is the front leather seats, which are both electronically adjustable and feature heated seat functions. Both seats are in good condition for the mileage of the XKR

The driver’s seat is of course showing slightly more wear than all the others, but ignoring that all the seats are good condition, with no splits, tears or rips. The rear seats, on the other hand, look like new, likely as a result of never being used. There is plenty of room, this Jaguar XKR is a genuine 2+2 sports car.

Both door cards, carpet and all interior trim look good for their age. This is rare on these models. They can get a bit careworn; this XKR belies its age.

The steering column does not move in or out and is fixed at the fully in position.

As a sign of how this Jaguar has been cared for, the boot space is clean, tidy and all intact.

Outside

  • Alloy wheels
  • Wonderful Jaguar Coupe styling

Italian style is often banged-on about. But Jaguar really did pull out the stops with XKR.

Overall, the paint is in good condition. It you look closely in the Gallery you’ll spot the usual blemish here and there, including some defects on the nearside rear wheel arch. This is typical and common on a classic of this type.

The lamps, which often become opaque over time are in good condition.  The alloys are in good condition which is unusual for one of these.

Significantly, the MOT is new with a very solid history.

Bottom line

  • Quad-cam V8 with 370bhp
  • Five speed 5G Tronic box
  • Well maintained
  • New engine fitted (we believe) under warranty
  • Good colour
  • Lovely interior
  • Genuine car

The XK8 is a very good classic. The XKR is on another level altogether. Even though they are much fewer in number, the condition various enormously. Talking to our vendor, looking at the images and seeing the care it has had, we have a sense this is a decent XKR. It is a testament to Jaguar that a classic with this mileage is in such fine fettle. If you’ve been searching for a nice Jaguar XKR for a while, that’s great value, you may just have struck lucky. Good luck.

Good luck bidding.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
