Celebrating 30 glorious years of Range Rover production.

Just 100 of the 30th Anniversary Edition Range Rover P38s were built in in the final year of production in 2001. When one comes to market, they always attract a lot of attention from collectors and investors, but most of all from Range Rover fans.

Background

The original Range Rover arrived way back in 1971. It took 24 years for that winning formula to be changed. But when they did, they got it spot-on. With a budget of over £300 million, the project started in earnest in 1990 under the cunning codename of 38A. After a battle to win the design brief between giants such as Pininfarina, Italdesign, and Bertone a small in-house team called Pegasus won out. The Range Rover P38 (Pegasus and 38A) launched to a warm reception in 1994. The rest is history.

History and paperwork

  • First registered 31 January 2001
  • First owner: Mr Vasalo of Cumbria
  • Selling Dealer – Lloyd Motor Group, Rosehill, Carlisle (now called Lloyd Land Rover)
  • Service and Handbooks
  • Last Serviced at 150k
  • New MOT in May 2023
  • Three former keepers
  • With our vendor since 2008

Outside

  • Unique 30th Anniversary colour of Wimbledon Green
  • Colour coded bumpers
  • Tow bar

On the outside, the Wimbledon Green certainly means the Range Rover P38 30th Anniversary model stands out from the crowd. There are a few wear-and-tear marks and “car parking” dents. For example, stone chips to the front end that have been touched in along with the bottom edge of the tailgate. This is usual, given the age and mileage of this P38.

Inside

At the time, the top spec Range Rover was the Vogue SE. The 30th Anniversary Range Rover P38 went a few options better.

  • Classic Green carpet
  • Burr Maple wood
  • CD changer in boot
  • Lightstone interior trim
  • Classic Green/Lightstone seats
  • Dual tone steering wheel

Jump into this Range Rover and you’ll find that chunky steering wheel with multi-function buttons.

Scanning around, the Burr Maple, acres of dual tone leather and quality carpet are all in good condition. The cream piping is still intact. The headlining at the rear needs some attention, images are in the gallery.

What is rare is that this Range Rover P38 comes with rear seat entertainment and twin section folding walnut picnic tables. Only 50 of the 100 made came with this spec.

The boot has escaped any deep staining. In there is a full-sized spare alloy.

Mechanicals

  • 4.6 Litre V8 petrol
  • 218 hp 300 lb-ft of torque @ 2600 RPM
  • ZF 4 speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive and high/low ranges and selectable modes
  • New engine fitted at 76,000 miles
  • Improved electronic air suspension system, or EAS
  • Automatic speed determined ride height adjustment, with manual selection
  • Service history
  • A number of previous MOTs
  • Recent new tyres
  • Our vendor of 15 years says the Ranger Rover P38 “drives well, has a smooth gear change with no clunks or rattles”.
  • Receipts and details on file for the new engine

It is a very positive sign to see a classic like this Range Rover with the same owner for 15 years; this P38 seems to have been well looked after.

*Please note that there is a dashboard message that says Airbag fault but it’s not showing on the fault code – image is in the gallery*

Summary

Commissioned by Land Rover to celebrate 30 years of Range Rover production, the P38 30th Anniversary Edition models were intended as a celebration of the production anniversary.

All limited editions are highly sought after. The 30th Anniversary models are rare and highly prized by Range Rover P38 fans and collectors alike. This one does need a little TLC but it takes little away from a grand classic like this. And those wrinkles are reflected in a very sensible reserve.

Good luck! Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Vehicle Location: Belford, Northumberland NE70 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.
