The Lotus Elise Series 2 was launched in October 2000. It was an updated Series 1 using a modified version of the Series 1 chassis to meet new European crash regulations. Same K-series engine with new Lotus ECU. Rated at 120 bhp.  Arguably one of the best handling cars to ever be produced they quickly built an almost cult like following.

This S model, fitted with the K-Series engine had an interesting start to life as it was originally registered by Lotus and used for composite testing. It was eventually registered for road use in 2005 finding its way to Sergio Perez’s race mechanic.

Running a MB power train in F1 would suggest that he knew his cars and how they operate! so we expect the Elise to have had a very pampered life during his ownership.  There were then three other owners before this Lotus Elise Series 2 found its way to our vendor who has owned it for seven years.

The vehicle will be supplied with:

  • two keys
  • its original type approval certificate,
  • its current MOT which expires in September this year
  • and all the previous MOTs warranting the 42,888 mileage

As you would expect from such a pampered car there is a large pack of invoices showing where and what has been maintained during its time on the road.  It even has its original toolkit present.

You may well ask why on earth such a pampered and much loved car has come to market? As we hear more often than we would like to, our vendor has been affected by some mobility issues that have diminished the ease of getting in and out of this wonderful car. As such, it is not getting the use it fully deserves, and not wanting to have such a spectacular drivers car go to waste, some lucky bidder now has the opportunity to take ownership of this fabulous Elise.

The Lotus Elise Series 2 looks stunning; its stance lower and more purposeful than before. The minimalist interior of the original is superseded by a more heavily trimmed and stylised cockpit that looks more grown-up and is easier to get into.

This Series 2 comes in silver with black trim and is in fantastic condition for a twenty year old sports car. The only minor blemishes are on the usual flared rear quarter panels, these can be seen in the lot gallery, and a minor scrape on the lower valance that was caused by a ridiculously steep ramp, it must be mentioned that you really do need to be on your knees to see it!

There is also a very small area on the tip of the bonnet that has caught a nick at some point and the very smallest of cracks in the drivers side sill kickplate, again you will need an eagle eye to see it as it is literally millimetres long. As you can see our vendor has been extremely picky in his description sharing issues that would probably never have been noticed. But he knows they are there and now so do you.  All in all, a truly stunning example of these spectacular looking cars.

As can been seen in the images the black leather interior is in fine condition with no obvious damage and very little wear. Although our vendor has shared that you cannot actually see it without specifically looking but the cloth backing at the rear of the seat (the section that faces the bulkhead) has started to come away due to the glue drying up. It’s a common issue that is very easily remedied. The door pads are also in great condition and as you would expect from a 42,000 mileage car there really is nothing bad to report.  Our vendor states that all the switches work as they should and it all presents extremely well.

All you ever hear about is how well a Lotus handles and rightly so, what is less discussed on the myriad of forums is that wonderful engine. We think they are missing a trick here as although the 1.8 litre 16v K series engine is not the biggest, it works supremely well in the Elise, with around 750 lbs of weight you really don’t need anything else.

This Lotus Elise Series 2 engine produces a maximum power of 120 bhp at 5600 rpm and a maximum torque of 123 lb.ft at 3500 rpm. Mated with a 5 speed Manual gearbox it gets to 60 in 5.8 secs and will pass 120mph.  If you have ever driven one of these, then you will agree that is not to be sniffed at. When sitting this close to the floor it feels even faster than those numbers suggest, if you haven’t driven a Lotus Elise Series 2, then at the very least get one on your bucket list as soon as you can!

This sorted example has benefitted from having a new cambelt, water pump and alternator belt fitted in March this year and has been regularly serviced and maintained. This Elise wants and has wanted for nothing during its pampered life.

Wheels Tyres Suspension and other

Cornering is its forte. One sharp corner in an Elise and you’re hooked. A serious speed merchant can exploit the Elise’s sublime, sweet-handling chassis and slide the car around a bend with one finger. Mere mortals can enjoy the car’s talents just as much by keeping everything smooth and steady.  It cannot be said enough that these cars really are one of the best handling cars on the road…  EVER!

As with everything else on the car, the suspension has been well looked after with new rear shocks and coil overs fitted just a few miles back keeping it glued to the floor.  The six spoke 16 inch alloys are in fine shape with only the smallest of blemishes in sight and good tread all round, in fact the rear tyres were only replaced a couple of thousand miles back.

The last thing to mention in this section is that the sale was held up for a short while whilst our vendor sorted the brakes as he has literally just had a new brake master cylinder fitted along with an OE brake calliper so as with everything else on this wonderful example, the brakes are also in fantastic shape.  Great news considering the supercar beating acceleration and speed of this super little pocket rocket.

Our view

The Lotus Elise Series 2  is a genuine classic that does both Lotus and its discerning owners proud. It has been said many times that, as a driver’s car, it’s the best car money can buy.  We would argue that you would be hard pushed to find one as well sorted, and with the provenance and pampered life that this wonderful example has.  Grab this opportunity while it lasts and get bidding because if you win this auction you are in for a treat.

Vehicle Location: Anglesey, North Wales LL64 it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
