Description

What sets Harley-Davidson apart from other motorcycles manufacturers is their attitude, their promise and above all their character – intangibles that stimulate, refresh and inspire far more than any cold performance figures or specifications. Proper motorcycles.
Harley Davidson make a vast range of motorcycles and within that there are various derivatives. We think it’s best to chat a little about the Heritage Softail Classic model and then why this particular bike is, in our opinion, so good.
The range was introduced in 1998. Since then a huge number of improvements have been made culminating in this, the 2003 model. Harley’s aim was to give riders the comfort and reliability of modern bike that they could ride all day with the classic 1940’s hardtail look. This version uses Harley’s stonkingly good 1450cc 45 degree v-twin 88B twin cam engine. The unit is rigid rubber mounted in the mild steel frame. State of the art electronics combined with modern fuel injection systems means the 1450cc lump pulls like a truck providing a massive 81ftlb of torque from as low down as 3000rpm. All that provides crisp throttle response with a pure soul satisfying rumble
This bike is real showstopper. A one-off factory special edition which was manufactured celebrate H-D’s One Hundred Year Anniversary. A one owner bike purchased new by our vendor. When not being ridden in mostly dry conditions it’s kept garaged under a custom cover. Our vendor advises it has a full service history with receipts for money spent on other things. During our vendors time the bike has covered only 17,250 miles. He is happy to warrant that mileage.
It comes fitted with an endless list of features all included.
- Detachable king size Lexan Touring Screen (we’ll come back to that)
- Superb leather saddlebags in perfect condition which are easy clip on/off style
- Chrome edged running boards, which make long distances a pleasure
- Twin ‘passing lamps’ mounted either side of the main headlamp
- Passenger backrest
- Wire wheels which look stunning
- Full front fender
- Touring handlebar
- That marvellous 100 Anniversary special factory paint work that is unique to this H-D
And of course acres of gorgeous chrome which is to die for!
There are a couple of points the vendor has asked to flag. On one side of the screen, there are few minor scratches. On the off-side of the fuel tank there minor stone chips. In the interests of transparency the vendor has included some very honest images in the gallery.
There is a custom bike cover, an Optimate battery charger and high security chain with lock that complete the sale.
Our view
This H-D Softail Special represents a great entry in to Harley ownership. At a fraction of the price of new one, with this bike you’ll get a one owner low mileage one-off Softail Special with all the trimmings that has been meticulously looked after. Harley residual values are known for being rock solid. This was a factory special anniversary model and because of its condition, in a couple of years we expect this to increase in price.
Our pre auction marketing of the bike has shown a lot of interest, we’d expect the hammer to fall somewhere between £7,000-£8,000. We won’t be surprised if that estimate is passed.
Bike Location: Coulsdon, Surrey – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor
