Description

  • Recent Full Repaint
  • Less than 45,000 warranted miles
  • New Battery
  • Extensive history file
  • Absolutely stunning example

The Aston Martin DB9 was a landmark model for the company. Launched in 2003 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the DB9 introduced a new look that was co-designed by Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker. This timeless design combined with Aston Martin’s renowned 5.9-litre naturally aspirated V12 made the DB9 the ultimate GT car fit for the 21st century.

This 2004 example is presented in the right colours and is in what can only be described as mint condition, it has had only 4 previous owners from new. It comes with a brand new MOT plus all the previous MOTs warrantying the 44k mileage and an extensive service history that includes all the stamps either from an Aston Martin Main dealer or an Aston Martin Specialist.

Our vendor has also recently commissioned a “Vehicle Health Check” report from his local Aston Martin specialist.  Other than a minor issue within the SRS ECU that has been rectified by replacing it the report came back with a full and glowing picture of health. The specialist even went as far to say that the engine had never experienced the common misfire problem that is and was prevalent on these big V12 engines.  Very impressive for a hand-built car that was produced nearly twenty years ago.

Exterior

Any DB9 aficionado will be aware that the stunningly designed body on these cars is mostly aluminium and is planted onto a full aluminium platform, obviously this means there is no need to worry about the dreaded and, expensive to rectify, rust.

Being somewhat fastidious, our vendor still felt the need to treat the car to a full professional respray, we were not sure why either, but as our vendor stated there were a few stone chips here and there and although they did not detract from the quality of the paintwork “he knew they were there”.  Being so fastidious he actually commissioned a full repaint, not just to the areas that had the blemishes.  As you can see from the images this attention to detail has left the DB9 in, what can only be described, as absolutely mint condition!

At this point we would normally point out any minor blemishes or areas that need attention and as you have just read it is mint so there is genuinely nothing to report.  We did keep asking but our vendor explained that the car has literally travelled 15 to 20 miles since it was resprayed in November, at that point we saw fit to shut up and accept that this DB9 is an exceptional example.

All that is literally left to do is walk around and be captivated by the stunning lines that lend this DB9 to being one of the most alluring cars on the road.

Interior

After catching your breath and pulling yourself away from the stunning exterior the next step is to press the remote and pull on that lovely pop out door handle to open the driver’s door.

The first thing you notice is the quality of the Sand Storm upholstered leather and walnut trim. As you would expect from a marque model of a brand such as Aston Martin, they made a statement with this interior that said pure luxury…. We think they managed that and then some….

Bearing in mind that this early DB9 is now 18 years old, you would never know it from quality and condition of the interior.  Although not far off it is not 100% perfect, but we would challenge you to find one of this age in this good a condition.  The usual driver seat bolster wear is absent and there isn’t any discolouration or wear in any areas of the seats, in fact you could be mistaken for thinking the rear seats had not been used at all.

When really getting down to the nitty gritty there is a small rubber section missing from the passenger door card and the roof lining has experienced the usual sagging but even that has been rectified by fitting upholstery buttons, which in our opinion do not look out of place at all.

The recent full health check outlines that there is absolutely nothing amiss with this car and that also goes for the myriad of comfort options, buttons and switches fitted, every single one of them operates as it should.  There really isn’t anything that this fastidiously looked after DB9 needs doing to it other than the door cards missing trim.  A truly outstanding example.

Engine

The Aston Martin DB9 was launched equipped with a 5.9-litre V12 engine mated to a six-speed auto transmission, already being used in the V12 Vanquish. This mighty engine generates 420 lb⋅ft of torque at 5,000 rpm and a maximum power output of 450 hp at 6,000 rpm. It can accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h (60 mph) in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 299 km/h (186 mph).  Serious power and delivered smoother than the proverbial baby’s bottom.  This really is a magnificent engine.

The winning bidder will be in for a treat when they lower themselves into the lush sand storm leather seats and turn the key for the first time as there’s still nothing to match the sound of a large capacity, normally aspirated V12 engine at standstill or in full flight. Even though it is marketed as a grand tourer, it still packs enough punch to deliver pure unadulterated automotive theatre.  With the impressive top speed and acceleration numbers previously mentioned they will be in no doubt that they are driving what was once, and probably still is, one of the finest Luxury Grand Tourers produced by any make, let alone Aston Martin.

As previously mentioned, this DB9 has been treated as you would expect a premium top of the range grand tourer should, with those all-important 12 stamps in the service book, all from main dealers and Aston Martin Specialists. Plus that impressive health check report, you can be sure that this has had a very pampered life and will want for nothing going forward.  It has even been treated to a new battery just to be sure.

Wheels Tyres Suspension and other

The original ten spoke nineteen-inch alloy wheels where fully refurbished at the same time as the respray so as you expect, are absolutely immaculate, they were even spoiled to four new genuine Aston Martin centre caps, another nod to how fastidious our vendor is.

Four new Bridgestone Potenza, exact replacements from the recommended and factory fitted tyres, where also fitted at the time and as previously mentioned only 15 to 20 miles have been driven on them so they are still brand new.

As expected, the Aston Martin DB9 handles exceptionally well and this particular model is no different, again referring to the recent health check there is nothing untoward to report on the rest of the running gear as it is all working perfectly well. The double wishbone suspension and anti-squat and anti-lift technology keep the back end under control at all times adding to the exceptional handling that is expected of such a marque car.

Our view

The Aston Martin DB9 is a thoroughbred sports car with GT levels of comfort and refinement. Combining Aston Martin’s unique character with an uncompromising design philosophy, the DB9 was borne out of a synthesis of traditional craftsmanship, high-tech manufacturing, modern components and use of the finest materials and boy, does it show.

Looking as good as it did when it left the showroom, this 2004 model does not disappoint, the winning bidder is going to get a fully sorted and well looked after example of what was once and arguably still is one of the best grand tourers on the road.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classic cars are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘cars are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of  us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classic cars.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images, please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
