2005 Luego Velocity XT Kit Car
Description
- A homage to the Lotus 7
- Thought to be 1 of just 75 made
- Striking colour scheme
- Many racing parts fitted
- MOT’d until June 2023
Super light, super agile and super cool. The Luego company was formed in 2002. After its early years in Northants and Cambridgeshire it subsequently moved to Scotland.
Luego’s full production of cars ended around 2010, however, the business continues servicing and looking after the cars.
The first model produced was the Locost. During the business’ early years, the models were supported by the massively influential Ron Champion. In the mid ‘90s Ron wrote an important book, some would say “bible” as it is still revered by many in kit car circles, ‘Build Your Own Sports Car for as Little as £250’ – hence the name “Locost”.
All the models pay homage to the wonderful Lotus Seven sports car.
Sources indicate that only around 75 Velocity XTs were ever made and our vendor, Mike, advises that he believes that only 6 cars are still registered, so you are unlikely to find another one like this.
History and paperwork
Mike has owned the car for 2 years, although no service history came with the car, he has carried out a long list of works to the Velocity including:
- New wheels & tyres
- New alternator
- New water pump
- New radiator and fan
- New quick rack & quick shift
- New quick release steering wheel
- New LSD fitted
- Full brake service
- Full engine service including carburettor service kit
- New adjustable panhard rod
- New exhaust system
- New oil pressure & water temperature capillary gauges.
- Geometry set up
- Corner weights & ride heights (suspension set) and wheel alignment completed
As such, we are advised that the car runs, drives and handles remarkably well!
Chassis and mechanicals
The XT’s are all about low weight and a terrific power to weight ratio:
- A superb tubular steel chassis
- Independent suspension all round
- Progressive rate springs
- Quick rack steering system
- Limited slip diff
- Quick shifter gearchange
- Brakes have been overhauled, front disks, pads callipers, rear pistons, shoes.
- New mini lights wheels and new 185/50/13 Nankang tyres fitted
- Recent new fan, radiator
Outside
The yellow colour scheme with wide centre stripe looks great. All the GRP panels are in good condition. The Velocity is complete with:
- Two external mirrors
- Windscreen with side shields
- Wiper system
- Reverse and fog light
- Highly polished alloy side panels and rear kick plates
- Short cycle style wing guards
- A specialist, bespoke exhaust
Engine
The variations in these models are enormous. It is great to see this model remains true to its Ford heritage. Simple, robust and reliable. We’d always suggest caution when we see hyper engine vehicles with all sorts of electronic gizmos. Keep things simple is always best, as it delivers maximum fun
The Velocity is running
A 2.0-ltr Pinto engine with a 114 bhp output. The engine is standard as far as Mike could tell, and it has been fully serviced during his ownership:
- oil and filter replaced
- new timing belt
- water pump
- spark plugs and leads
- valve clearance set
- Weber 32/36 carburettor service kit
Phew! That’ll save any costly bills for a while for the new owner.
Inside
- GRP bucket seats
- New harness – a new 3” 5 point in blue was fitted this week
- Chequer-plate floor
- Padded dashboard
- Sports steering-wheel
- Six piece gauge set
Our view
No-one who gets behind the wheel of a Velocity XT and emerges at the other end without a huge smile on their face. It’s quite simply the most direct, purest drive you’ll ever experience.
Get in to the easily accessible cockpit and you are cossetted into the narrow seats, sitting just inches above the tarmac. The tiny steering sports steering-wheel mated to a Quick Rack offers razor-sharp reactions to your wrist movements. Move your left arm a fraction and grab the gear lever. The movement is short, you’ll change gear in the blink of an eye, grinning all the time.
The most fun you can have on four wheels? Probably. All this at a fraction of the original build cost in very rare, well put together Velocity XT.
Vehicle Location: Fife – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

Guide Prices?
We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.
Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.
The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!
But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.
Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.
We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.
We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.
If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.
As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.
So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.
Two final comments on images and photos.
The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.
If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.
Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
