The iconic shape is recognised throughout the world. It could only be a Mini. When it entered production in 1959, it was revolutionary.  A transverse engine driving the front-wheel via a gearbox in the engine sump. With wheels positioned out as far as possible, it gave 80% space for the passengers. Best of all it made for go-kart like handling. This layout would go on to influence the design of almost all compact cars.

History & Background

  • Photographic restoration
  • Large history file
  • The very first MOT this Mini had is on file
  • Original purchase invoice listing optional extras

This classic 1978 Mini 1000 has been restored to period condition and looks superb.

Paperwork

This Mini 1000 might be small and perfectly formed but it has a mountain of paperwork with it. There is a comprehensive history file containing MOTs, invoices and photos detailing the restoration work, together with various maintenance / minor repair invoices.

Our vendor has grabbed a few images to give bidders a flavour. There’s simply too much to mention. However, if there any specific bits of information anyone needs, it will be no trouble to dig them out. Just let us know.

Inside

The grey interior is fully refurbished and is in extraordinary condition. Take a look at the images in the gallery.

  • The seats front and rear are newly trimmed
  • The carpet is “as new” and looks unused
  • Door cards have been replaced
  • The headlining is new
  • Polished wood trimmed steering wheel
  • Opening rear quarter windows

The interior has a beautiful combination of new and original fittings. Items such as the switchgear, central clock and gauges have all been retained. This preserves the original charm of the classic Mini that we all know and love.

Outside and underside

During the current ownership, the car has been dry stored in the owners garage. The Tweed Grey paintwork with Old English White roof is in very good condition with a deep shine. All of the chrome trim and brightwork are in superb condition.

We always ask; ‘Are there any niggles?”

Our vendor was very open with us. The check-strap is missing on the nearside door but a new one is supplied. A small dent is apparent on the offside rear, beside the rear lamp. And finally there are some minor imperfections in the paint on the front wings. However, they are so minor, the camera struggles to pick them out.

Underneath the quality continues. There are some great images in the gallery. You don’t need us to tell you, you’ll make your own mind up about the overall condition.

New items, amongst many, include:

  • Exhaust performance stage 1 kit from Mini Spares
  • Brake pipes
  • Subframe
  • Battery
  • Leads
  • An Electronic ignition has also been fitted

Mechanicals

Under the bonnet, is the venerable standard 1000cc 4 cylinder A-series engine. This is a matching engine number car.

The Mini is used sparingly but regularly. our vendor tells us that “it drives perfectly” and it is believed that the mileage to be correct at 34,000 miles (and MOTs present appear to confirm this) but as we always say, please make your own enquiries.

It’s clear to see, the engine has been well maintained. The paintwork finish on the firewall and flitches is very good.

This classic Mini 1000 hasn’t been over-restored to make it look like a new car. The balance works wonderfully well

Our view

What an outstanding looking classic Mini 1000. In this carefully restored condition Minis are becoming  increasingly rare now.

There’s just something very special about the original Mini. Even more so when it has benefited from a full, quality restoration like this.

You don’t need us to tell you how Mini Cooper prices have sky-rocketed. But they are not the only way to enjoy a beautiful classic Mini.

This Mini is not only a brilliant, fun, enjoyable route into to classic car ownership, it is also very, very affordable way too. Our vendor has a few classic cars, this one is ready to be released to a new owner at sensible reserve. If you’d like any further information, do get in touch.

Vehicle Location: Banbury Oxfordshire OX15 – it’s the responsibility of the winner to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

 Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
