BMW 325i Convertible 1986
One of the most iconic cars of the ‘80’s?
In 325i Convertible form the BMW E30 lived up to being the “Ultimate Driving Machine” defining an era. The appeal of the 325i has endured and with a loyal fan base coupled with reliability for bullet proof engineering that appeal lasts today making it a true classic.
History & Provenance
From the original sales order and subsequent sales invoice we can see how the vehicle was spec’d and then delivered new on 21 November 1986 from BMW Main Dealer, Lloyd Motors Ltd in Carlisle to Mr R. S. of Keswick. The original log book is with the file. The car was spec’d with Factory Option Road Pack as well as black full leather interior and metallic paint amongst other things. Thinking ahead, Mr R.S. had four BMW mudflaps fitted. It’s a testament to his ownership, they are still on the car today. As is the tool kit on the underside of the boot lid, very rare and wait for it….the BMW re-chargeable torch in the glovebox. That is a gift!
The records with the car show Mr R.S. kept this car for an incredible 29 years until 2015. In the last few years of his ownership, MOT & Service Records show minimal use. Apart from MOT’s and regular annual services, the car travelled a couple of hundred miles a year. It could well have been stored for a number of years too before being re-commissioned and sold as of part of his estate.
Mr R.S. was a fastidious owner keeping every single tax disc, original paperwork and Work History Reports. The detail include oil changes (using top quality Magnatec) brake pads, wiper blades, tyres, antifreeze, mirror glass…..you get the picture. See the images. Regretfully, those charged with looking after Mr R.S.’s estate were less circumspect & appear to have misplaced the original service book from the selling dealer. That Dealer operates still today and we’re sure any prospective purchaser could re-establish contact with them and this wonderful and wonderfully cared for car.
Paperwork on file shows the last and most significant work to be carried out in 2018 included;
New exhaust system; new rear shock absorbers, full service along with cam belt change amongst others. This car has wanted for nothing.
The metallic grey paintwork is simply outstanding. Unmarked, untouched and rust free. The chrome, brightwork, bumpers, trim & lamps are equally in super condition. If we were being over-picky, we’d say the only exception is the chrome beading insert around the front screen which is rather dull. The panel gaps are all perfect and true just as when it left the factory. The panels are all original. The convertible hood is in brilliant condition, free of rips, splits or damage. It looks original too.
Engine & Transmission
The heart of this car is that fabulous 2.5 six pot fuel injected masterpiece of an engine. What an engine. As would be expected with that service history it fires first time of asking and settles to a steady, deep, thrum. Give the throttle a quick blip and it bursts into life sending a delightful crack & pop from the exhaust. Depress the light clutch, slip into gear and the car pulls eagerly urging you on. Buzz it up and down through the manual box and the car is a delight. It feels tight and right. No shakes, shimmy or rattles, just right.
Wheels, Tyres, Brakes
The power of that brilliant six-pot can shred tyres and brakes. Have no fear. They are all good.
The original factory fitted alloys are in perfect original un-restored condition and look as good now as they did when the car was delivered. This car has been pampered.
Due no doubt to very careful ownership this 325 is in marvellous condition. We would go as far as to say, like no other 325i Convertible on the market today.
Unlike many others that have been neglected by owners who couldn’t afford Main Dealer service prices or those that have been lowered or tweeked or modified or all three, this is truly an un-molested original car.It is rare to find a manual 325i Convertible, even rarer to find one in the superb condition with back-up paperwork. Drop yourself into those lovely supporting Recaro seats, fire it up, slip it into gear and the car transforms you back to the ‘80’s. A true classic.
We very much encourage viewings and test drives, no obligation whatsoever, no pressure, no sales tactics, just come along, chat and drive the car.
We do love classic cars and we do love people who love classic cars! We like to chat too! (As you can tell from the length of our description!)
