Lambretta. The name stimulates memories of special times. With their founder, Ferdinando Innocenti very much at the handlebars, the Italian scooter manufacturer was leaving everyone in their wake. When they rolled out the Li series, the competition may as well have packed it all in.

In the post war years, Lambrettas were transportation for a nation. Whether it was getting to work, going to a meeting or going on a date, the Lambretta excelled. Everyone appreciated the convenience and simplicity – but most of all, the fun.

Then the Sixties arrived. Everything changed. Britain was the heart of that change. The Beatles and The Who were topping the charts. Young working-class people wanted to be mobile. Travelling to see bands was a huge part of that.

Music, fashion and attitudes fused. The most recognisable form of that cultural change was the Lambretta.

The Series 3 Li was a special part of those special times. Today they are massively collectable and great fun.

Background

The Li Series 2 was a huge seller, but Lambretta came up with some changes for the Li Series 3 . Though the heart of the scooter, the tube frame, motor, and forks, were essentially the same, the body on the outside was radically changed. The Series 3 LI’s are easily differentiated from earlier model LI’s by their outward appearance, which included much flatter cowls, narrower legshields, and an overall thinner appearance. They were appropriately dubbed the “slimstyle” range.

Mechanicals

There is something very pleasing about the distinct sound and smell of a two-stroke Lambretta. This very smart, tidy Li 150 was extensively and sympathetically restored. You’ll get a sense of that from the Gallery. It has had very little use in the last 23 years, being mostly an office showpiece.

  • 12-volt conversion
  • New kick start
  • New tyres and tubes
  • Original style exhaust
  • It also comes with a new exhaust with a fruitier sound

Exterior

You’ll judge for yourself, but you’ll be hard pressed not to agree this Lambretta Li 150 does look smashing.

We feel that this scooter truly represents that very special ’60s legacy that now makes Lambrettas so sought after today.

  • Fully stripped down
  • Media blasted
  • Resprayed
  • Two tone colour scheme
  • Lots of extras
  • Chrome foot runner
  • Two-tone dual seat
  • Rear carry racks

 Additional Information

This what our vendor told us about his wonderful Lambretta Li 150:

“This is an original Lambretta Li 150. I purchased it in 2000 and had it fully restored to exactly as my own, 1965 Lambretta Li 150 was when I was a Mod. That is same two-tone colour scheme, front and rear crash bars, front and rear carriers and original style exhaust. I also have a spare, new, exhaust should the buyer prefer a noisy version!

The entire scooter was stripped down and grit-blasted before re-painting. It was also converted to 12 volts. In the past 23 years it has been ridden for very few miles. Mostly, it has been kept and admired. Within the last 12 months it has had a new kick-start mechanism and new tyres and tubes.

It is currently stored in a dry, locked garage in Ipswich. My reason for sale is that having had two recent shoulder operations I dare not risk the possibility of coming off as it would just be too damaging. Being 73 also makes me more nervous!

All the above is mentioned so as to say to any purchaser this is a very honest machine, and with a very genuine reason for selling”.

Our view

By the ’70s the passion for scooters was dropping off. You could pick these up for next to nothing. Many of us did.

In 1979 a little niche film called Quadrophenia was released….’Jimmy’ rode a Lambretta Li 150 Series 3 . They are now pretty special scooters.

Lambretta lovers are well looked after in the UK. In a thriving scene, there are numerous and regular ride-outs all over the country.

Membership to the Lambretta Club of Great Britain is open to everyone. Its 5,000 members are as knowledgeable, helpful and enthusiastic as you can get.

Whether you just want to potter, have a longer run to the coast or re-visit a mis-spent yoof dreaming of Leslie Ash in Quadrophenia, is there anything better to do any or all of that with, than with a well sorted, tidy looking Lambretta Li 150 Series 3?

You’ll kick yourself if you miss this one.
