Photographic Guidelines

This guide aims to give you some hints and tips to best photograph and video your vehicle to improve it’s potential to sell.

Getting this right is really important as it’s the key part to selling your vehicle so please take your time and follow this guide for the best results.

Images and videos can be sent to us for free via WeTransfer – please get in touch if you need any help with this and please do not to use any filters to alter the colour of your vehicle!

Preparation is Key

  • Give the exterior and interior a really good clean and polish
  • A good background is important – ideally find a local beauty spot to set your vehicle off perfectly – try to avoid a lot of background “noise” that will distract the eye
  • It’s best to avoid bright sunshine – a dry / cloudy day is perfect and remember to shoot at the right time of day as lighting is really important. Watch out for reflections on the car if you are shooting on a sunny day
  • Get all your paperwork together in date order
  • Remember to turn your phone on it’s side so the photos are in landscape orientation

Whole Vehicle Shots

Buyers want to see the full vehicle from all angles before delving into the close-up shots

  • Choose your background carefully and ensure that it suits your vehicle 
  • Stand back
  • Hold your phone landscape. ie on it’s side
  • Walk around the vehicle taking a shot from every angle, around 12 – 15 shots would be ideal, as per these images 

Panel Photographs

Stand back and take a wide shots of every panel on the vehicle and then take 2-3 shots close in about 1-2 feet away if there are any imperfections that potential buyers need to be aware of 

  • Keep the camera / phone at arm’s distance from the car
  • Remember to show all blemishes or imperfections – honesty is the best policy!

Take lots of photos – we will pick the most suitable ones!

The Details

These photos pick out some of those lovely details that make your vehicle special – it may be the fabulous leather seats, beautiful wheels or lights – whatever makes your vehicle sing!

  • Find the areas you like and photograph them up close
  • Take about 10-15 pictures including the badge, wheel, lights etc

Photographing the Interior

  • Cover all areas including the bottom of doors
  • Doors (frame & cards), seats & carpets, steering wheel, dashboard & centre console
  • Don’t forget to photograph the headlining!

Photographing the rest

  • Boot
  • Roof
  • Windows
  • Engine Bay
  • Underside – If you’re able to get photos of the underside, these really help potential buyers.  Kneel on something comfortable or have a younger person with better knees to take the photos for you!! Take photos from under each side of the vehicle and remember to keep the camera in landscape mode.
  • Wheels and Tyres
  • Accessories / Toolkits etc
  • Documents (V5, MOTs, Service Book, Invoices etc)

Motorbikes

Buyers want to see the full bike from all angles before delving into the close-up shots

  • Choose your background carefully
  • Stand back
  • Hold your phone landscape ie on it’s side
  • Walk around the bike taking a shot from every angle, around 8-10 shots would be ideal, as per these images 

The rest of the bike

Stand back and take some wide and close ups of other parts of the bike – the seat, wheels, exhaust, fuel tank. Take additional photos as needed of any areas with imperfections that potential buyers need to be aware of

  • Keep the camera / phone at arm’s distance from the car
  • Remember to show all blemishes or imperfections – honesty is the best policy!

Don’t forget to also photograph any Accessories / Toolkits that come with the bike plus documents including V5, MOTs, Service Book, Invoices etc
