We are delighted to have this Volkswagen Beach Buggy which is part of a small collection of classics from the estate of the late Dr Allam.

Assem Allam became one of the most successful businessmen the county of Yorkshire has known. He was not your average multi-millionaire.

As a student in 1968, he was forced out from his native Egypt after speaking out against dictator Nasser’s regime. After a month in Germany he came to East Yorkshire.  Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail he said: “The people here in Yorkshire made me feel very welcome. I came here for a month and I stayed for 42 years.”

Mr Allam started life in the UK studying economics at the University of Hull and began work as an accountant. He built the successful business; Allam Marine, transforming the diesel generators manufacturer into a global player. Along the way amassed an impressive string of accolades, including twice winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and UK Entrepreneur of the Year

The Allam family became synonymous for their philanthropic gestures.

Millions of pounds have been pumped into education and healthcare in the region. This included support for the Daisy Appeal at Castle Hill Hospital, a birth centre within Hull Women and Children’s Hospital, a new diabetes treatment centre at Hull Royal Infirmary, partly paid for with a donation from Mr Allam. The family also donated to the University of Hull to establish a new bio-sciences research centre, not forgetting the Allam Medical Building, also at the University of Hull which was one of his favourites as it was opened by Queen Elizabeth II. Dr Assem Allam, died at the age of 83 in December 2022.

Volkswagen Beach Buggy

The Volkswagen Beach Buggy just screams 1960’s surfer vibes! Originally developed as a lightweight off roader with its ultra simple fibreglass body and rear mounted air-cooled engine, the Beach Buggy embodies the carefree spirit of its era. Based on the VW Beetle chassis, the Buggy design is stylish yet simple with its minimalistic dashboard and bucket seats.

This Volkswagen Beach Buggy was purchased two years ago on a whim.  Dr Allam obviously felt that at the ripe old age of 81, it was time to have a bit of fun! Unfortunately, he never had the pleasure of driving it and the Buggy has sat in his collection ever since. Now here to find its new custodian.

Originally red, with a colour change in 2008, the now blue metal flake body has some age-related marks which can be seen on the photographs. The rear bench seat and bucket seats are in need of a good clean, a little TLC and require some attention to reattach the seat pads.

The Beach Buggy has been fitted with a 1300cc twin-port Volkswagen Beetle engine, not the most powerful – but with the low weight to power ratio, it guarantees a lot of fun. Featuring the Beach Buggy staple, twin cannon exhaust that provides a lovely, throaty, rumble.

The HPi report states that the Buggy was first registered in 01/05/1967 and has had thirteen owners. The V5 will need to be applied for.

Sold with No Reserve, this Volkswagen Beach Buggy is longing for a forever home. One where it will be used as intended. To provide hours of fun and generate miles of smiles. Sand optional!

 Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
