Part of The Hockley Collection. We are pleased to have this and several other classics on our platform. The collection is an eclectic mix of classic cars and bikes. Graham our vendor tells us he “only buys stuff he likes”. Most of them have been stored for a number of years (see pics). It is time for scale down, more likely than not to make space for some others.

They all start and run…

In typical Gallic style, the Renault 6 was delightfully simple and yet wonderfully effective. The gear lever was mounted high, on the dashboard, creating a clutter-free floor and a real feeling of space. A front bench seat was standard fitment, but individual front seats with adjustable backrests were an optional extra, like the ones fitted to this one. The back seats were equally spacious, but the R6’s main attraction was its practicality. A large, full-width tailgate opened to reveal a cavernous boot, with further space available by removing the parcel shelf and folding the rear seats.

Its styling might have been more ‘plain Jane’ than Jane Fonda, but it masked a hugely practical, reliable and comfortable classic.

Background

This 1977 Renault 6 was owned by one family. It remained in the same area of Spain its entire life being used daily up to 2006.

The mature Spanish owner gave up driving and parked it in his garage. There it remained until it was sold by the family to a colleague in Spain on behalf of our vendor.

Although it was no longer a daily driver, the family had kept it regularly run up to temperature and moved it in and out of the garage.

To be on the safe side our vendor fitted a replacement radiator, expansion tank and a battery

UK registered on the correct “R” suffix and historic tax class, MOT and Tax exempt.

Outside

That quirky design is just so appealing but totally practical too. The outside of the Renault 6 is in good condition; a visit to the detailers has worked wonders. These pictures are not recent, but it has been stored carefully. There is no reason to think the application of a Sunday’s worth of elbow grease would not result in the same outcome.

It has been painted at some point but not by our vendor.

All the brightwork, glass, and trim is in place in and in decent condition. Being in the Spanish climate has obviously been kind to the diminutive Renault 6.

Interior

Inside is pretty much the same as the outside; charmingly well looked after. The good seat covers are slightly loose, understandably so after all these years but not damaged.

The dash is “excellent”. The aftermarket oil pressure and temperature gauges work. There is some minor damage to the roof lining, but our vendor describes it as “not serious”.

The two front seats fitted so close together effectively make a bench seat, alongside a clear flat floor you are given the impression of a much bigger car on the inside.

Mechanicals

We’re told everything on the Renault 6 is as it should be and importantly is all original with no foolish modifications.

Graham told us:

Mechanically it feels strong. The brakes, clutch etc work well and while not ever to be described as fast, its 1037 cc motor pulls it along happily. It is amazingly torquey, pulling out of corners in third gear with no need to down change. It has a set of rare “Gordini” wheels fitted (2 are originals 2 are copies) these are staying on the car; the spare is of the original type fitted to the car”

Our view

This Renault 6 is a pure joy, isn’t it? To find one in this condition is a rare delight.

Vanishing now even in their native France. The ever-popular “How Many Left” website suggests there are just handful registered on UK roads.

Fun, frugal and marvellous the Renault 6 makes a great classic. Great value. Great to own and maintain. Great fun.

With the market turning on to the appreciation of ‘ordinary’ classic cars, the value of these is only going one way.

Footnote

All the classics in the Hockley Collection start and run. However, as always after a classic has rested up for a period, there will be an element of light recommissioning involved before returning properly and safely to the roads.

Good luck bidding! Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Vehicle Location: Hockley, Essex SS5– it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

 Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
