Italian styling cues from the original Giugiaro designed Mk 1. Excellent German engineering. Powered by the legendary 1800cc GTi engine. The Scirocco GTX Mk 2 makes brilliant sense as a classic car on so many levels.

It comes with a great history, low miles and only one previous owner. Do not miss this GTX.

Background

Named after the hot Mediterranean wind, VW launched its wonderful coupe at the Geneva Motor Show in 1973. In 1982 the Mk2 Scirocco arrived with the styling revised in-house by Herbert Schäfer. This grown up Scirocco was assembled by Karmann for Volkswagen.

The second iteration of the Scirocco was a complete redesign with a longer body and reduced drag co-efficient. The all-new two-door coupé retained the front-engine, rear wheel-drive layout of both the Golf and Mk2 Scirocco and was offered with a wide range of engines and trim levels. Right through to the top-spec GTX model in ’85 with the same engine that was fitted to the Mk2 Golf GTi.

  • First registered 25 October 1985
  • Selling Dealer Edwards of Tamworth
  • Full VAG document wallet

  • Only one previous owner
  • With just one registered keeper

Our vendor purchased this very genuine VW Scirocco from a wealthy businessman in Birmingham who had bought it for his wife. It became available after she sadly passed. Looking at the condition, the paperwork, and the mileage it has clearly been well cared for. Our vendor advises us that he believes the Scirocco is all original.

Outside

With its arch extensions, body kit and rear spoiler the Mk2 Scirocco had a more well-developed look, creating a dynamism and intent. It drew customers in who were looking for a sporting coupé in the image-conscious ’80s. And it worked; sales were very strong.

  • Black wrap around body kit
  • Matt black grille with subtle red accents
  • Halogen headlamps with supplementary fog lamps
  • Smoked rear lamps
  • Black waistline mouldings
  • Limited edition 14” Pirelli ‘P-slot’ alloy wheels
  • The matt black window trims and original correct V3 GTX specific rear spoiler complete a fabulous look

The outside of the GTX looks unmarked. The shut lines, tailgate and bonnet gaps are all uniform, showing German precision engineering.

Inside

The interior carries on over the same theme of condition and factory originality.

  • Original seat trim in Black and Silver
  • Matching door trims
  • Factory four spoke/four button steering wheel
  • Rare factory fitted parcel shelf
  • Multi-function Indicator stalk

You’ll know how unusual it is to find a Scirocco interior in this unspoiled, original condition.

Mechanicals

Expect lively performance and sharp, safe handling from the Scirocco GTX. The underpinnings need little introduction as they are basically the Golf GTi and a real driver’s car.

  • 1800cc GTi engine
  • Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection
  • Engine number – DX120345
  • Front wheel drive
  • Smooth five speed gearbox
  • Macpherson strut and wishbones up front
  • Trailing arms at the rear
  • Remote servo
  • 0-60 in 8.8 secs
  • Top speed – c.120mph

The engine bay is remarkably clean, tidy and dry. Over the years Sciroccos have been a favourite of the ‘Gone in 60 seconds’ brigade. This one, we are advised, is totally original and unmolested.

The key to keeping it that way is one long term owner and regular servicing and maintenance. Have a look though the Gallery and you’ll see a stamped service book and regular cam belt changes.

Summary

This VW Scirocco makes perfect sense. It is near on impossible to find an unmodified one now. The GTX was a range topping model and rare indeed.

If you’re a diehard VW ‘Rocco enthusiast this is one to get excited about.

Even if you’re just a classic car buff, the Scirocco works so well. Its build quality and reliability mean it is easily an everyday car, the GTi heritage means it goes stonkingly well too.

‘Roccos have lived in the shadow of the Golf for too long. One registered keeper. Unrivalled condition. Documents and service history. This Scirocco is not in anyone’s shadow. A real star. Do not miss it.

Vehicle Location: Ellesmere Port, Cheshire CH66 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendors.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So, we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at team@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to get back to you, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important, and we are here to help and answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images, please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
