Description

We all know about the prices of Fast Fords. They’ve stayed strong for some time with some literally soaring away almost out of reach. Are there any Ford bargains left? The answer is yes.

At its height, a journey along Britain’s motorways would have persuaded you that the blue oval’s flagship model was Britain’s best-selling car. Today, Henry’s big saloon is an uncommon sight. Many were crashed, bashed, thrashed or all three. In today’s climate of runaway Ford prices, the Granada Scorpio offers a lot of car for the money.

The Granada Mk 3 came along in 1985. The Scorpio badge meant every single bell and whistle was fitted and added to an already long list were:

  • ABS
  • Heated leather seats
  • Electric rear seats
  • Heated windscreen
  • Cruise control

They sold like cakes straight out of the oven. The Granada Scorpio cakes sold before they even left the oven.

History

  • Year of manufacture 1987
  • Date of first registration in the UK 15 February 1995
  • Chassis number – WF0AXXGAGAHK65977
  • Our vendor tells us there is a binder full of paperwork and service history

The documents in the large history file suggest this Granada spent most of its life in Jersey.

The MOT records show the following:

  • 11 December 2007 the mileage was 92,875
  • 5 October 2022 the mileage was 93,397
  • The current mileage is 93,615
  • The current MOT expires in Sept 2024

We understand this Ford was stored off road for a period and recommissioned ‘a couple of years ago’.

Outside

The metallic blue paintwork looks pretty okay, as you can see from the images.

Of course, the body is not without its imperfections. There is some superficial surface corrosion in the common areas that is typical of an 80s classic Ford.

  • Body coloured grille
  • Wide bodyside mouldings with bright inserts
  • Remote control heated door mirrors
  • Halogen headlamps
  • Tinted glass
  • Tilt/slide glass sunroof
  • Original factory alloy wheels

Inside

  • Ford really packed this Granada with goodies. We love the fact that even the rear seats are electrically adjustable.
  • Multi-function quartz digital clock
  • Full leather interior
  • Ambient temperature readout
  • Central locking
  • All round electric windows
  • Rev counter
  • Rear heater control
  • Stereo
  • Graphic information module with warnings for door ajar, ice and bulb outage.

The inside has aged rather well and looks clean, tidy and damage free.

Mechanicals

This Granada was one of the first to be fitted with the new-fangled ABS as standard.

  • 2.9 litre EFI Cologne V6 engine
  • Factory option of A4LD four speed auto box
  • Macpherson strut front suspension
  • Trailing arms on the rear

The big torquey V6 suits the Granada’s personality perfectly; laid back and easy to live with. But shove your foot down and you’ll feel the kick down drop a couple of gears and the big Granada will fly all the way to 125mph. It’s much better on long runs at the weekend purring along without drama or fuss.

Bottom Line

Never let it be said, Ford do not build cars to last. This is an amazing and unique classic, in an intriguing way. Stylish, spacious and great value. The hardest thing may be finding a Mk3 Granada for sale.  The next and most important thing is finding a survivor that’s in sound condition and has benefited from ongoing care.

  • This one has lived in Jersey
  • Has been off the road/stored for a while
  • Lightly recommissioned and unmodified
  • And in recent years covered very few miles

Are there any Fast Ford bargains left? Yes. Here it is.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So, we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at team@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to get back to you, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important, and we are here to help and answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images, please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
