Vauxhall’s third generation of the Astra was released in 1991 and it remained in production for seven years. The example we have here is the 3 door, 1.4 Merit Auto, finished in metallic red and trimmed with grey cloth. Our vendor bought the vehicle two years ago when the mileage was a mere 19,450 miles. She now feels that it’s time to let someone else enjoy the car as due to other commitments, she lacks the time to drive it or display it at local shows. 

Originally a demonstrator vehicle, this Vauxhall Astra Merit was first registered to Dickens Vauxhall, Wrexham who sold it to an elderly gentleman. He used it to pootle around, run errands and do his shopping. In 2006 he gave up driving and tucked it away in his garage. Fast forward to 2021 when our vendor purchased it. She has used the car lightly, covering less than two thousand miles in her ownership.

 You’ll see in the photo gallery that we have highlighted two areas on the paintwork that could do to be improved: a small patch near the driver’s door that shows a slightly different shade of paint, and a patch of blistering close to the drivers wing mirror. The grey cloth interior and headlining look to be in super condition and the rear seats look like they’ve never been used!

What a smashing little car. Vauxhalls in any shape or form are holding their own at the moment and at 26 years old, this low mileage, rare little Astra Merit Automatic is the perfect starter car, show car or errand runner!
