Description

  • Six speed gear box
  • Limited slip diff
  • Thought to be just 50 Turbo Plus’s on the road
  • Dyno tuned to 309bhp
  • Currently running 250 bhp

In 1994 Fiat launched the Fiat Coupe complete with engines from the World Rally Championship winning Integrale. It was a massive success. In 1998 Fiat took the Coupe to the next stage, with the LE model. The success kept coming. To top that, in the final years the Turbo Plus was launched. It is thought only 300 were made with around just 50 on the road today. In standard form, the Turbo Plus had 220bhp on tap, which resulted in six second 0-60 and 155mph. This one is far from standard making it a very unique Fiat Coupe Turbo Plus.

History and paperwork

First registered 30 March 2000.

Our vendor has had the Coupe since December 2022.

Prior to our vendor, the records show it was with the previous owner from 2012.

We have invoices for work undertaken plus old MOT certificates, please see the image gallery.

Engine and Transmission

Under that clam shell bonnet you’ll find a rather superb 2.0-ltr 20v five cylinder engine, pushing out 220bhp in standard form. For a front wheel drive car that is rare, even today. To ensure all that power transfers to the tarmac, Fiat fitted a limited slip diff via a viscous drive unit, linked to a six speed gearbox. To keep everything as tight as possible, Fiat added a beefer strut brace to the engine. The package makes for a superb driving car.

This particular Fiat Coupe Turbo Plus is on another our level.

Our vendor takes over;

This Turbo Plus comes with some amazing mods pushing out 309bhp. With the Coupe comes a dyno graph print out to record the enhancements. They included;

  • A larger turbo
  • Bigger fuel injector
  • A larger front mount intercooler

I would highly recommend the new owner to put in a sports or paddle clutch so it can handle the extra power. The current power is turned down to 250bhp.

Outside

Overall the Coupe looks striking in Electric Blue. Our vendor tells us that as expected of a 23 year old classic “the paint work does have some blemishes, it is not perfect!”. That is of course overshadowed by scarcity factor of the Turbo Plus models. Our vendor advises us that he carried out some welding for the MoT in February this year.

Externally, Fiat made subtle mods to distinguish the Turbo Plus. The sills were painted in body colour, it had a factory body kit, a new honeycomb front grille, spoiler extensions and new 8-spoke wheels.

Interior

Well, the Italians do know how to build a sports interior.

The black leather Recaros fitted in this Turbo plus were an option.

The door cards, seats, carpet are all free from splits, rips of damage.

The centre-piece is that stunning four-dial dash with silver and black racing-style instruments. The Fiat Coupe Turbo Plus comes with unique pale yellow needles on the dials. They do make you want to smile. There are one or two other little additions to the Turbo Plus interior such as carpet extensions and very practical storage nets in the rear.

Being Italian, the Turbo needed one last touch. A key-less starting system is replaced by satin silver starter button. Superb.

Mechanicals

The Turbo Plus featured independent suspension all round. Up front there are MacPherson struts and wishbones anchored to an auxiliary crossbeam with offset coil springs and anti-roll bar. At the rear, trailing arms mounted on an auxiliary subframe are fitted with coil springs and an anti-roll bar.

The brakes got an upgrade too. Brembo’s were fitted and lacquered red. The cross-drilled front brake discs do make a difference. Bite is better, with the vents letting out the gas formed when braking, preventing brake fade and adding  more power.

On this Turbo Plus, the wheels were refurbed. They are fitted with Toyo Proxes tyres all round.

A new MOT was issued in February 2023. There was an advisory notice on the brake discs, due to the Turbo Plus standing for a while, our vendor has fitted four new brake discs.

The Coupe was recently serviced, has a new alternator and our vendor tell us the cam belt was replaced recently, though not by him. To add a little extra, the exhaust system is a three incher from Blue Flame.

Our view

Rarely do Fiat Coupe Turbo Plus’s come to market.

These are rare in their own right but to find one that has had this level of enhancements is almost unheard of. It is indeed a very unique Turbo Plus, and with a very realistic reserve set too.

We expect a great deal of interest. Our vendor knows a thing or two about these Coupes, so if you have any questions please, please do let us know, he’ll be happy to answer them.

Good luck bidding.

Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
