Description

Background

The new Alfa Romeo Spider version – type 939, was launched at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, where it also received the “Cabrio of the Year” award. The Spider is based on the Brera coupe, seating two passengers rather than four. The 939 Spider is the 6th generation of Alfa Romeo Spider, the first version released in 1966. This car replaced the GTV Spider, which was introduced in 1995. The Alfa Romeo Spider Limited Edition had a number of unique features, including factory special paint and ungraded mechanical and interior options.

Interior

Aficionados will appreciate the echoes of 1960s Alfa Romeos. The rest of us will just love the Alfa’s stylish, user-friendly and refined interior, even with the mohair hood reclined.

All the controls and switch gear fall naturally to hand. Brilliant touches such as the water, fuel, and oil gauges written in Italian “aqua, benzina and oilio” make both you and the Spider feel special.

The roof is well insulated, keeping out noise as well as the chill in winter. The factory fitted wind deflector between the roll-hoops, makes a massive difference with the roof down to the extent that it’s easy to hold a conversation. The gorgeously upholstered leather seats are supportive and stylish. The Alfa Romeo badges embossed into the headrests are lovely touch.

  • Tan and Charcoal leather interior
  • Brushed alloy accents
  • Electric memory seats
  • MPS stereo
  • Bluetooth
  • Music and phone connectivity
  • On board computer
  • Multifunction steering wheel
  • Folding & heated mirrors
  • Rear parking sensors

Mechanicals

The 2.2 litre four-cylinder with 185bhp is a delight. When you open the bonnet, it looks it too.  Its eager nature makes it fun to drive getting from 0-60mph in 8.8 seconds and it pulls well at higher speeds making it an excellent cruiser. The steering is precise with the gearchange is positive and sports-like. The Alfa is grippy when pushing-on, has excellent brakes and is pleasingly easy to drive around town. There’s little to match the feelgood factor of top-down summer motoring in an Alfa, is there?

Outside

Very few car makers build such characterful cars as the Italians. If you’re in the market for a stylish drop-top that stands out from the crowd, the Alfa Romeo Spider is the one. Moreover, the later Alfas like these come with a Germanic build quality too.

  • Ghiaccio White paint
  • Black mohair hood
  • Heated rear glass screen
  • The hood lowers/raises in only 25 seconds
  • 19” ten-spoke smoke anthracite alloys
  • Original Alfa centre caps
  • Twin rear tailpipes
  • Boot mounted brake lamp
  • Triangular front grille with chrome inserts
  • Bumper inset driving lamps

The Spider’s boot is deep, easy to access and large enough to hold two weekend bags or a medium weekly shop.

The exterior of this Alfa Spider is full of great touches; the classically styled, off-set front number plate and those headlamps gleaming like precious gems out of the dusky void are extremely evocative.

Summary

Passion, emotion and style, the Italians seem to know instinctively how to build a drop top sports car. Alfas are now built to compete with their German neighbours on quality.

This Spider is unmistakably an Alfa through and through. In 2008 these cost nearly £30,000. It was a premium product. It still looks gorgeous today; even more so at this awfully sensible reserve.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So, we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at team@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to get back to you, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important, and we are here to help and answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images, please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
