Then fire up the 4.7-litre V8 engine and listen to the glorious burbly roar that sounds like nothing else. Add gorgeous looks and an illustrious brand heritage and it’s irresistible.

Outside

The President of the Ford Motor Company, Henry Ford II, used to swan around in a Maserati Ghibli Spyder. When one of his execs questioned why, he responded, ‘When my engineers build me a car as beautiful as this, then I’ll put this one in the garage’. Good point well made.

Despite a rich heritage, this is the first time that Maserati has produced a four-seat convertible Maserati since the AG6 Frau Spyder in the 50s. It was a hard act to follow, but they have done a superb job with the Maserati GranCabrio.

  • Metallic Oceano Blue
  • Shadow Line Exterior trim
  • Parking sensors
  • Bi Xenon headlamps
  • 20” optional Neptune alloy wheels
  • Electrically folding mirrors
  • Alarm system with anti-lift
  • Electronic boot opening

That matching blue hood is triple-layered canvas and takes just 28 seconds from closed to open. It can be operated up to speeds of 19mph. And also lowered remotely by the key fob.

Our vendor Mario has shared that there is a small dent on the panel behind the driver’s door, it hasn’t broken the paint and has never been noticed by anyone other than him – he spotted when washing the car. He has very helpfully added a couple of images pointing out this slight flaw in the bodywork (see photo gallery), but honestly, we still struggled to see it.

Maserati unveiled the updated, new version of their GranCabrio in 2011 with a number of upgrades including performance and handling. To highlight the new model’s more sporting nature, the headlights have black surrounds, as does the grille. There are also larger side skirts as well as subtle winglets on the lower front corners along, with new front bumpers and an air splitter, both of which substantially lower drag coefficient.

Inside

The cabin space is to die for. It easily justifies its original £100,000+ price tag,

The Maserati GranCabrio remains one of the most spacious and comfortable four-seat convertibles on the market. In order to restore some of the structural rigidity sacrificed in the conversion from coupé to convertible, the boot now incorporates a torsion wall. The offset is a very solid car that is slighter heavier too. However, with a 4.7-litre Ferrari V8 and advanced Skyhook suspension on the Sport version, you’ll not notice either. Anyway, you’ll be too busy controlling the grin on your face.

Mechanicals

  • 4.7-litre Ferrari/Maserati F136 V8
  • Quad cams
  • Variable valve timing
  • Four valves per cylinder
  • 450bhp
  • 0-60 in 5.4 seconds
  • ZF six speed auto box
  • Double Wishbone Suspension
  • Sport Skyhook Continuously Adaptable Damping
  • EBD – Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
  • EPB – Electronic Parking Brake
  • Adaptable Driving Modes
  • Maserati Stability Program
  • Traction control

Maserati’s Skyhook adaptive damping system was fitted as standard, accessible via a Sport button, which firms up the suspension and improves body control. The result is a far better driving machine than any other four-seat luxury sports cabriolets.

The Sport button doesn’t only firm up the dampers; at the same time, gearshifts from the 6-speed automatic gearbox are quicker. The most enjoyable feature? The exhaust flaps are opened beyond 3,000 rpm to release more of that marvellous mechanical music. The Sport model has stiffer springs, anti-roll bars and a more focused version of the Skyhook damping system. It is noticeably sharper and sounds even better.

Additional info

This is what Mario, shared with us.

“As you can see, she is very well looked after with a full service history from Maserati and Ferrari garages.

I recently took her on a “Grand Tour of Europe” via Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France and back. I took my son with me and over the course of the 10-day trip she never missed a beat.

This is an awesome car; she still sounds glorious to start and, on my trip, I managed to find room on the autobahns to stretch her up to just over 140mph with plenty left on the throttle.

This is the full supercar experience. Exciting and elegant driving in style. A proper car that I have been overjoyed with from the day I bought her to today and this is the only car I ever drove where I get out as comfortable as when I got in, no matter the distance of the journey.

And when I’m finished driving her, I can’t avoid looking back at her beautiful curves and kerbside appeal.

I am including the cover in the sale and all the usual boot-based items, including a still unused spare tyre kit with original compressor and tyre sealant”.

NB – There is a Vodafone tracker fob for each key (see image in gallery). Mario can supply account information if required.

Summary

The time has come to reward yourself with a really desirable, exotic sports car. Something with an open-top, a classic badge and an engine to die for. We’re talking a step above, here.

You can feel smug about Mercedes or Audi, but they won’t stop the traffic, will they? This Maserati GranCabrio does.

It’s unique in the luxury convertible class. Proper rear seat space for four people and a proper sports car.

This Italian offers everything. A Ferrari engine note, an open top sports car, sharp driving manners and room in the rear to share the experience with a couple of best friends. What could be better?

Superb car. Superb value. A superb opportunity. Just buy it. Good luck!
