The classic Morris Minor is the car that everybody knows. It has found a place in the heart of the nation. It even has a nickname; the Moggie. Even those who don’t have petrol in their veins are likely to have an affection for the Minor. 

The classic Minor has been on’telly-box more times than our Crabbers. Nurse Gladys in Open All Hours had one, Heartbeat, Call the Midwife and countless others. 

When the opportunity to market this quirky Morris Minor came across our desk, there was no way we were turning it down. 

When it first appeared, the Minor turned the small car market upside down. It was as innovative as the Mini that Alec Issigonis also designed a decade later. Here was a machine that was more spacious than most rivals, and quick enough at the time to match the competition. 

Where the Minor stood out was its quirkiness. This one takes that to another level and she’s called Maggie the Minor. 

We’re told, “the previous owner spent thousands of pounds on this Minor”.  

The A-Series engine has propelled swathes of classic British cars. In 2006, we think, at around 65,000 miles, the engine was reconditioned by the Charles Ware Morris Minor Centre in Bristol. 

The Minor has had other significant upgrades too. The electrics were updated which included replacing the wiring loom and alternator. A brake servo was replaced alongside the fluid reservoir. 

Crucially, the Minor was injected with huge doses of waxoyl. We never get tired of saying how well this preserves classic cars.  New carpets were added too. 

This Morris Minor has been thoughtfully and carefully looked after.  

Now we turn to modern mods. A decade or two ago it was common to see a Moggie that had been tweaked. The subtle tweaks, like this one, looked very good. 

The front suspension has been dropped to enhance the stance of the Minor and to be honest it suits it massively. Period style Wolfrace slots were added, with the slots neatly picked out in matching body colour, as you can see. 

The original Minor seats have been removed. In their place some rather snazzy Ford Ka, cream leather heated seats were sourced and suitably installed. Modern cup holders are a lovely addition too. We never had Costa coffee cups back in the Sixties. In keeping with the 21st century upgrades, front and rear USB ports were included along with a period radio. 

We asked our vendor about the Maggie the Minor. “The yellow paint work is an American colour. The Minor starts and drives very well, the car is in excellent condition for its age. It comes completes with old MOTs and invoices. It has an MOT until July 2022. Finally, the car is inscribed with the name Maggie the Minor”. Of course it is! Why wouldn’t it be. 

Summary 

Who doesn’t love a Minor. What is not to love about them. The classic Minor remained little changed until production ceased in 1971. We think it is great to see ‘different’ Minor. Total Minor production was 1,619,958, no less than 480,825 versions of the classic rolled off the lines. 

They say there is a Minor for everyone. This one proves the point doesn’t it!
