Portfolio My first.. but not my last.. Jaguar moment

It was April 1960 – 23rd April to be exact – I was 7 years old and it was my birthday. It’s St George’s day too. I wouldn’t have minded being called George but later learned one of many uncles was a George but everyone called him “Our Judd” and Mum was not keen. So Leslie it was.

Dad had planned a sea fishing trip for me that day. His mate, Jack Parks had a medium sized boat moored at Conwy by the castle. Well, then it happened, Jack turned up in his Mk ll Burgundy Jaguar well before Morse came along. Dixon of Dock Green of “mind my bike” fame and Biggles were my favourite role models!

I sat in back seat, well more like half propped between two front seats, no seatbelts back in those days of course. I was transfixed and happy as Larry. Didn’t catch much Mackerel that day, I wasn’t bothered though. I was just looking forward to the drive home!

What a  birthday treat and it started my lifelong love of Jaguars – image is in the gallery of my current Jag  S-Type 2.7D V6 Silver black leather wood trim with just 31,690 miles.
