The Morris Ten, announced on 1st September 1932, was a medium-sized car introduced for 1933 as the company’s offering in the prominent 10 hp sector of the British market.

With the 10hp category becoming increasingly important, the Ten was an immediate success for Morris. Introduced in August 1932 as saloon or special coupé, a tourer joined the range in December. A two-seater with dickey and a Traveller’s Saloon were added for 1934. Powered by a new side valve engine, the Ten was a sturdy if unspectacular performer with excellent braking through Lockheed hydraulics. Four-speed ‘box standard and clutch were the usual cork-linings-in-oil job. A new chassis introduced for ’34, along with synchro ‘box. Two-tone colour schemes came along in 1935. Much-loved by shoe-string motorists in the fifties, the survival rate of the Morris 10/4 is good.

History

Owned since 2017, unfortunately our vendors health means that this lovely little Morris 10/4 needs to find a new home, where it can be loved and cherished the way it has been since it was purchased.

It will come with 2 keys, the V5 in our vendor’s name, an owner’s manual and a small number of invoices.

Exterior

Our vendor shared that this little Morris 10/4 is in remarkable condition, and he believes the paintwork to be original. Considering the car is now eighty-five years old, that would be no mean feat. It’s almost impossible to prove, however, saying that we have no evidence to the contrary.  Either way the Green and Black two-tone paintwork presents extremely well considering its age.

As you can see from the images the exterior bodywork of this Morris 10/4 is extremely solid and we are advised the underneath is just as good.

The brightwork is in great order with the bumpers, grille and handles showing some slight pitting but no rust.

Interior

The green vinyl interior is in wonderful condition with no rips, tears or splits anywhere. The only real issue found is the driver’s door handle pull has undergone a repair at some point.

The headlining is in great condition with no sags or tears and the matching green carpets are all in great condition.  Clearly at some point in the recent past the interior of this Morris 10/4 has been refurbished to a high standard; even the door pads are undamaged and showing very little wear.

Our vendor has shared that the fuel gauge is somewhat temperamental but everything else works as it should.

Wheels Tyres Suspension and other

The optional wire wheels are in great condition, in fact the front pair have been treated to a recent rebuild after the obligatory bead blast and powder coating.

The period tyres are all in great condition, the same being said of the spare wheel.  With no unusual knocks or squeaks even the suspension and brakes are working as they should be.

Engine

Shortly after purchasing the Morris 10/4 our vendor saw fit to commission West Cornwall Engine Services to rebuild the engine and wow, they did not hold back.

With all new bearings, pistons and rings along with specially hardened “White Metal” conrods plus a machined head and full bottom up rebuild to the tune of £2670.  As expected with so much work and money gone into it, the engine runs extremely well and is a joy to drive. Our vendor has advised that the car runs on Super Unleaded petrol.

Our view

Although a Morris 10/4 is not impossible to find, finding one in this condition is difficult. This lovely example is going to be a fantastic acquisition for anyone looking for a solid, well looked after example.

With the full engine rebuild, tidy interior and those rebuilt wire wheels there is nothing to do here, just get in and enjoy this lovely, lovely thing.

 Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
