A long time before the Mini was a twinkle in Issigonis’s mind, Austin had produced a small family car that captured the hearts of the British motoring public. The A30. That love quickly transferred to the later A35. The affection moved into top gear when they produced the Austin A35 van. The charming, compact commercial vehicle with its iconic design rapidly became a popular choice for small businesses throughout Britain.

This Austin A35 van conversion has the best of both car and van worlds.

The A35 van has a distinctive boxy shape that maximizes load space while maintaining a compact footprint. It features a combination of steel panels and simple mechanicals ensuring durability and driveability.

Inside, the A35 offers a functional simple interior. The driver and passenger face an understated dashboard, featuring essential gauges and controls. The oval shaped speedo is centrally mounted with period switch gear and buttons either side and underneath. The two spoke Bakelite steering wheel looks original and has a nice leather cover. The two front seats, which are black with white piping, look newly refurbished.

At the rear the load space is huge and comes with the added benefit of two rear seats.

Mechanical upgrades have been added to this Austin A35 van, which include a front disc brake conversion and this A35 comes with the 1098cc A-Series engine as opposed to the diminutive 803cc. The 1098 A-Series ensures that this cute as a button A35 bimbles about very nicely. With modest horsepower it doesn’t have breathtaking speed, but it does offer the benefits of good fuel economy and a slower pace of life.

Our vendor John told us a little more about this A35:

“I saw it and I did buy on a bit of a whim. I’ve had it about 5 months and enjoyed it immensely. It is not quite right for me as I’m more used to modern cars. I purchased this van conversion from an Austin Owners Club Member who I think had it for about seven years. He’d used it mainly for shows and events. Latterly he used it solely for that purpose.

He had a mobility scooter and some ramps he used with the A35 when he was at shows, etc.  It has electronic ignition, disc brakes and the 1098cc engine. The rear seats come with it.

The Austin A35 isn’t concours but it is a lovely useable little classic in very good condition. The van has been resprayed in Florentine Blue and underneath has had some work too.”

Our view

The Austin A35 van holds a special place in the hearts of automotive enthusiasts and collectors. Its timeless design, practicality, and nostalgic charm make it an enduring symbol of the bygone era of British motoring. Being a dual use with its unique body style makes this one very rare.

Good luck! Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at team@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
