A smile-inducing piece of nostalgia, the Morris Minor Traveller makes the most perfect classic car.

The prototype was known as the Mosquito. We’re all glad they binned that. Making it’s debut at the Earls Court motor show in 1948, the Morris Minor was immensely successful.

The Morris Traveller, available from 1952, was also an instant hit. They are both as popular today as they were when they were launched.

Our vendor, Tony knows a bit about Morris cars – he managed a Morris and Wolseley dealership in Cornwall and even sold to the renowned author Daphne Du Maurier – both she and her sister bought Morris 1000 ‘s from him back in the day!

This Morris Traveller has had an older restoration, it still looks good. The Traveller is instantly recognisable; there isn’t anything else around like it. The curvy front end gives way to the wood frame exterior with a hugely useable load space.

  • Good exterior condition overall
  • The Smoke Grey paint is in good condition
  • Our vendor tells us there is a “small rust bubble”. We couldn’t find it to be honest, but it’s there, somewhere
  • The wood is sound
  • A lovely sun visor is fitted on the roof across the front screen
  • The chrome work is all nice and bright, right down to the bonnet badge
  • The original wheels have been repainted and then set-off nicely with quality chrome hubcaps

Good quality images of the end result are in the Gallery. This looks like one of the nicest Travellers we’ve seen in a while.

There is a feel of authenticity about this Traveller. The Morris Traveller was, and remains, no-nonsense motoring. That is one of the very many features that make it so enjoyable.

  • Grey/Blue interior
  • The seats are in good condition
  • Both the door cards are in the same colour and condition
  • Powder Blue carpet throughout
  • The dashboard is dominated by that lovely clock. Simplicity always works
  • Original steering wheel
  • All the toggles and knobs etc, give a proper period feel

The best bit is rear is the section of Traveller; it’s what makes the Morris Traveller. Entered by those two barn-type doors, it is all very adorable. Well, we adore it.

The BMC A-Series engine is a legend in its own right. Solid, reliable and dead simple to work on. From the moment you start them up, the familiar metallic clang as the starter-motor Bendix disengages and the exhaust gives the distinctive cough, like it’s clearing its throat, the engines have an eagerness about them.

Pop the sculpted bonnet, you find familiar a sight nestling in that large engine bay. The area is tidy, but some might say a little tidy-up might help. We’d be tempted to just leave as it is and enjoy it

For a small unit, the A-Series engines pull strongly so you can soon be cruising along at 50-60mph if not more. Other drivers will be waving and smiling which is a major distraction but enjoy it.

This Morris Traveller has had very little use. Since 2006 it has covered around 3,000 miles.

Additional info

This is what our vendor told us.

“The Traveller was restored some time ago. The wood is all good. The interior is all good except for a small tear in the drivers’ seat. I would describe the paint as 98%, with a small rust bubble. The Traveller has had welding underneath. There is a good history file with the car.

I’ve owned it for only three months. A friend of mine has offered me a classic car that I have wanted for many years. Therefore, I am parting with this Traveller to make space for that”.

The evergreen appeal of the Morris Traveller is down to its combination of charm, usability and affordability. And of course, it is probably one of the most popular British cars ever built.

With the condition this one is in and the very sensible reserve that is set, we anticipate this one will be extremely popular too.

Good luck! Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Vehicle Location: Cornwall PL24 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
