Description

  • Matching engine and Frame numbers
  • Recently recommissioned
  • Original Paintwork
  • Fantastic collectors’ example
  • From a large private collection
  • UK Model

The Yamaha RD200 is an ultra-exclusive product with elements that are perfect for a retro-modern motorcycle. The balanced design, 1970s charm, and chrome design elements are unmistakably exclusive to the RD200. It was sold before the birth of RX100 and thus, design derivatives are seen in the most popular lightweight Yamaha retro model.

Coming from a long-term, spectacular collection of circa twenty two-stroke motorcycles, our collector knew his stuff, looking at this bike you can also see how well he looked after the collection.  His RS100 is also in auction with us.

Our vendor who purchased this matching numbers UK model bike from the collector has shared that the bike was in fantastic condition but had not been run for some time due to the previous owner’s illness.  This meant that it needed some minor recommissioning that has now been carried out.

With only a handful of owners prior to going into the collection it is believed that the 12,871 mileage is true and correct, although there is very little paperwork with this Yamaha RD200. We do have an MOT from 1979 that is showing 12,358 miles and as the bike’s believed to have been in storage since then, you can see why it is believed to be true and correct.

Unfortunately, it cannot be verified due to the lack of paperwork but there is no reason to question this, especially when looking at the condition of this wonderful little two stroke.  It will also be supplied with the obligatory Yamaha RD200 parts list and Haynes Manual.

The Bike

The Virginia Gold paintwork has been professionally applied prior to it being stored and due to its lack of use and sympathetic storage is still in immaculate condition. As you can see from the images there really isn’t a mark anywhere in that lovely gold paintwork.

The Yamaha RD200 is powered by an advanced twin-cylinder, 195cc engine that is good for a maximum power of 22 HP @ 7500 rpm and a peak torque of 21.3 Nm @ 7000 rpm.  Our vendor has explained that the engine has been rebuilt at some point with evidence everywhere including new engine bolts, HT leads and cables all looking like brand new.

The rear number plate carrier has been powder coated, the seat has been re-covered and looks new, even the bolts holding the foot pegs have been replaced.  The tyres look great with plenty of tread and no age-related cracks or evidence of perishing.  It is pretty obvious that the RD200 has had a lot of attention during its storage and really is a wonderful example of these lovely little bikes.

We’ve been advised by our vendor that having checked the electrics, the headlight has not been wired up although the wiring is in place, but this will need finishing by the winning bidder.

Our vendor has been extremely honest in his appraisal of the bike and explained that the only real thing needed to bring this up to concours condition would be to re-chrome the brightwork (and wire up that headlight!).  Our view would be to leave the brightwork as it is, as it shows the honesty of this Yamaha RD200 and confirms (in our opinion) that the mileage really is correct. In fact, just look at it, it is not really that bad but like he says, it is not concours but is very good.

Obviously, now MOT exempt our vendor has not put a current MOT on the bike but explained he has ridden the bike around his property and is pretty confident it will pass as it runs sweetly, everything works on the bike as it should and during the recommission he gave it a thorough check over.

Just looking at the images of the bike will tell you that this example really is just waiting to be added to somebody’s collection, whether that be a two-stroke collection or otherwise, this Yamaha RD200 really could be the star of the show.  Happy bidding.

Vehicle Location: Loughborough, Leics LE12 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

 Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
