Description

  • Full restoration
  • Less than 12,000 miles from new
  • Only two previous owners
  • Extensive documented restoration file
  • Receipts in excess of £3000
  • Absolutely stunning example

Successor to the 1970s SOHC CB750 models, the all-new DOHC CB750F Super Sport models were created with ‘Euro-Styling’ for European markets, however they were an instant success around the world!

The Honda CB750FB was developed from the manufacturer’s highly successful RCB long-distance endurance race bikes and available in both un-faired (F) and faired (F2) variations they became popular for long-distance sports riding. In some countries this series of models were known as Integra or Bol D’or.

This particular example has only two previous owners and a phenomenal history which is detailed below.

The first owner purchased this Honda CB750FB new in March 1983 and owned it for just over 30 years.  Its first MOT has a recorded mileage of 6711. He then ran the bike until he reached a recorded mileage of 11,716 at which point the bike was stored and not used again.

In April 2013 our vendor’s very, good friend manged to purchase the bike from the original owner with full intentions to restore the bike. As is very common in these situations a while passed, in fact two years, before he realised, he was just not going to get round to starting the restoration! It was at this point in May 2015 that our vendor got his hands on her.  Our vendor has a signed statement from the original owner testifying that the mileage of 11,716 miles is true and correct.

It was at this point that our vendor started the restoration and as expected from a bike that had been stored for such a long time there a quite a bit to do as the condition had deteriorated somewhat and a full restoration was on the cards.

The Restoration

It wasn’t until 2017 that our vendor started the resto project on what has become a serious contender in being the best example of Honda CB750FB on the market right now. It really is that good!  The extensive list of works below will testify to that, and quite frankly, it is a very bold statement but we are prepared to stand by it.

The bike was stripped down completely with every nut and bolt being removed to allow the list of work below to be carried out.

  • Frame, swing arm and ancillaries powder coated by A1 Powder Coating Knottingley
  • Engine, brake callipers, wheels, ancillaries vapour blasted A1 Powder Coating Knottingley
  • Engine repainted with high temperature original Honda silver engine coating
  • Engine side covers all machine polished awaiting future clear lacquer coating
  • Front forks hard chromed with complete internal rebuild by AM Philpot Ltd Luton
  • Carburettors Ultrasonic cleaned, stripped and rebuilt by Shedsonics Marsden
  • Repaint of fuel tank, side panels, tail units, mudguards by JC Paintwork Selby
  • Graphics and lettering by Image Works Ilkeston

The Rebuild

  • Front and rear brake callipers were refurbished and painted with new pistons new pads fitted
  • New stainless brake lines
  • Refurbished master cylinders front and rear
  • New greased and lubricated swing arm bearings fitted
  • New shock absorber bushes fitted
  • Refurbished forks fitted with new top and bottom head bearings
  • Wiring loom overhauled, all electrics checked, new battery fitted
  • Both wheels refurbished
  • Brand new Tyres fitted

As you would expect from such a detailed and extensive restoration our vendor did not stop there, he went on to have the engine top and bottom end inspected and all the tolerances have been checked and adjusted where needed, the starter motor has been stripped and inspected, the same with the clutch, in fact the report came back that they are in “as new” condition.  The carburettors have been cleaned and rebuilt and adjusted along with a new airbox being fitted.

Our vendor told us: “The frame and ancillaries that were powder coated .. in permitted gaps during lockdown 2018/9 and the tank, side panels, mudguards and tail piece were all prepared and painted end of 2019 prior to start of reassembly.” The eagle eyed amongst you who do their research will have spotted that the bike is stated to be silver on the V5, our vendor has not yet advised DVLA of the colour change but the winning bidder can do so when change of ownership takes place.

So, all the ancillaries have either been repainted or powder coated and an original specification exhaust has been fitted (see below).  Within the images there is a small mark on the right-hand exhaust that the vendor believes to be rubber, possibly from a stray boot but is confident it will clean off.

Our vendor painstakingly searched for that replacement exhaust, he told us: “It took nearly a year to find a replacement original spec complete exhaust system as they are practically impossible to find in UK other than pattern copies.  This complete exhaust and silencers system was sourced from Japan from a Classic Honda restorer. It is from a bike that was 2 years old which he took in for spares, so was sold as used excellent condition.”

So you can see just how much time, energy and attention to detail has been taken with this Honda CB750FB. In fact take a look at the 50+ images in the Rebuild Image Gallery.

After all the effort that has been lavished into the rebuild, it was very sensibly run for six miles with engine flushing oil prior to being filled with Mobil 10/40 oil.

The last thing to do was MOT the bike, this was carried out and the mileage on 11th August 2020 was recorded at 11,722 miles.  In fact, that was the last time it was ridden, so it has had 10 miles added to that number due to the ride home.

Unbelievably, it has only been up and down the drive to keep it running but has never been on the road since.

The Bike

As you can see from the extensive list and the images this wonderful Honda CB750FB really can be described as the best example currently on the market…in our opinion!

With a bike that has been so extensively restored the images will do all the talking needed but it is best to point out any blemishes as there are usually and, in this case, so few you will get a true picture of how stunning this bike actually is.

Our vendor has shared that the paint shop did cause a minor scuff to the headlamp trim and the rev counter whilst they squeezed it past a parked car, as you can imagine this displeased our vendor somewhat but as he said it really is that minor that he did not feel it necessary to cause too much of a ruckus. On very close inspection there is a small tear to the left-hand tank sticker, presumably done when being fitted but we understand they are available for £30 should the winning bidder want to replace it.  Other than these minor points, you really will be purchasing the very best example on the market at this time.

Our view

If you are looking for a classic Honda Inline Four that arguably set the tone for the whole inline four Supersports scene then you really are in for a treat with this fully restored example.

We do honestly believe your search will stop here as we know that you will struggle to find a bike as extensively restored and with such a great provenance, plus that detailed photographic history and at least £3000 of receipts in the document pack, the original Registration document plus the original service book stamped with first service.

A truly rideable classic bike that can either be enjoyed immediately or be placed as the centre piece of any classic motorcycle collection.  We would probably choose the former as we just love riding classic motorbikes, we know, very controversial, we fully expect loads of emails metaphorically smacking our wrists for risking such a perfect piece of history, hey ho, each to their own.

Vehicle Location: Selby, North Yorkshire YO8– it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
