A Fiat Abarth 595 Recreation. A brilliant fun upgrade on the already great classic Fiat 500. This one was restored in Italy and comes with a modified engine and very smart cosmetic enhancements.

Background

The self-named Italian racing car company was founded by Austrian-Italian Carlo Abarth in Turin in 1949.

Carlo Abarth adopted his Scorpio birth sign as the company logo – the scorpion. The company has become renowned for producing legendary tuning kits for road vehicles.

Mechanically, the Abarth 595 was vastly improved over the standard classic Fiat 500. It came with upgraded engine and ancillaries which made it fly.  But don’t worry, to prevent it literally flying, the suspension was stiffened and lowered! It came with Abarth badges inside and out. Abarth cars and performance parts are sought after by collectors worldwide. We are very lucky that our vendor chose to put this Italian built Recreation on our platform.

History

This classic Fiat Abarth Recreation was imported from Italy in 2020 where it had previously undergone a restoration by Autofficina Flash Auto Reggio Emilia.

It started life as 1974 Mk1 Fiat 500. We have on file a copy of the original logbook.

Outside

  • In classic Abarth colours of red & white, this Fiat Abarth Recreation does look good.
  • The recreation includes many of the original Abarth features
  • New roof
  • Unique Spoked-style alloys with scorpion centre caps
  • Open engine lid conversion

A lot of thought has clearly gone into the restoration of the original Fiat 500 to recreate the Abarth tribute.

The attention to detail is also very good. Neat touches like the ‘595’ and ‘Scorpion” badges are one thing. But also, just look at those chrome linked wiper arms. Someone has given a lot of love to this classic.

The underside of the Fiat Abarth Recreation looks as neat and tidy as the top side. Loads of images are in the Gallery, take a look.

Inside

The interior is as good as the outside.

  • Black leather seats with ride piping and side bolsters
  • Black and red carpet
  • Abarth over-mats

The minimalist uncluttered fascia sporting the single decal is timeless and charming. With the sports steering clasped firmly in your hands and the sound of the rear mounted engine angrily buzzing away, for a moment, you can imagine yourself dodging the traffic and the sound of blaring horns in the centre of Rome. La dolce vita!

Engine and mechanicals

Our vendor, Antonio, tells us there are “sheets of paperwork with the car”. A portion of the provenance is in the Gallery, but all of which will go to the lucky new owner.

The engine runs a genuine Abarth cylinder and sump, which can be see in the Gallery too.

  • New tyres have been fitted on those lovely lattice spoked alloys
  • Stainless steel exhaust with chrome twin tailpipes
  • 34,000 kms

We are told it drives very well and is great fun to own too.

Additional information

This is what our vendor Antonio, said;

“The Fiat 595 Abarth Replica 1974, was Imported from Italy in 2020 following a restoration, both cosmetically and mechanically.

It is a 1974 Mk1 Fiat 500 with Abarth 595 Engine and Styling, displaying Abarth Head and sump. Along with alloy wheels and stainless-steel exhaust.

The restoration was by Autofficina Flash Auto Reggio Emilia Romagna. The car has done only 34,000 KMs The car is registered for the UK, and is on an M plate, also classed as a historical vehicle and is therefore Tax and MOT exempt. I have a photocopy of the original log book. The Fiat requires number plates and just generally needs the next owner to put their own stamp on it by choosing accessories. I have owned the vehicle since September 2020, I am selling due to other projects and feel that it needs to be shown and used.”

Bottom Line

There is so much to like about this Abarth 595 Recreation. The classic Fiat 500 needs no introduction. A great little classic in its own right and massively popular.

The restoration and homage to the 595, takes the charming Fiat to another level. The bone fide Fiat Abarths, if you can find one, are nudging thirty grand now. Finding one is the problem.

The reserve on this this Fiat Abarth 595 Recreation is a country mile from those numbers. Some lucky bidder is going to get a bargain.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
