Description

The Toyota Land Cruiser J40 series made its debut at the dawn of the swinging sixties.

Everything about the FJ40 is straightforward. Fit for the job, built to last with an attractive simplicity that engenders real affection in its owners.

Globally, these early Land Cruisers are a legend. In the 1980s as the Toyota Dealer network expanded in the UK they took off.

In classic terms, the 40-Series (1960-84) cars are the most desirable, and they have a cult following.

The number of cars around the world still in service around the world attests to the Landcruiser’s indestructability, build quality and popularity. Like this one many have been imported into the UK from climates much better than British summertime.

It’s rare to find one for sale, but when you do, they attract a lot of attention We don’t need to point out you what an opportunity this one provides.

This is what our vendor told us;

“It is a rolling chassis, project car without an engine or gearbox. The car was imported from Indonesia in 2019 with the view of creating a custom FJ project similar to the iconic car developed in the USA by the FJ car company (https://www.fj.co). This project has now stalled. Whilst the vehicle isn’t complete for the right buyer it represents a viable project”.

Please note: our vendor sent the car to have work done. Unfortunately, the work was shoddy and unacceptable and the vendor removed the offending items. You can see from the accompanying pictures (Image 1 and Image 2) that an attempt was made to fit a Jeep steering column/box This has since been removed, resulting in damage to the chassis number.

When it was imported it was ‘inspected’ by the Toyota enthusiast club. The correspondence is in the Gallery.

Summary

Of all the things that emerged in the early 1960s the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 proved to be one of the most practical and durable things of all.

They are super popular with the young modern retro buyers. They either fit them with large V8s or electrify them. Can you imagine one of these on battery power, wow!

Or, as we’d prefer, kept original.

Versions of either are well in excess of £30,000 now and are heading towards forty.

Our vendor has reserved at a fraction of that. What an exciting opportunity this is to acquire a rare FJ and rebuild exactly how you would like it.

Vehicle Location: Swindon, Wiltshire SN4 – it’s the responsibility of the buyer to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendors.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So, we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at team@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to get back to you, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important, and we are here to help and answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to buying.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images, please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
