Description

  • Currently owned by pop star/actor Will Young
  • Comprehensive restoration in 2017
  • Bespoke rebuild was undertaken to Young’s spec
  • A highly practical, popular classic!

Singer, songwriter, actor and petrol-head, Will Young, came to fame in 2002 after winning the first series of the ITV’s Pop Idol. Making him the first winner of the worldwide franchise.

His debut single Anything Is Possible / Evergreen was released two weeks after the show’s culmination becoming the fastest-selling debut single in the UK. Will still holds that record.

His albums have spawned many singles. Top 10 positions in the UK, four of which went to the number one spot, has amassed multiple honours, including two Brit Awards from 12 nominations.

His estimated worldwide album sales are said to be over ten million.

A career in film, stage and  television followed. This venture saw him nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

Will is also known as a committed promoter, sponsor and donator to good causes. A genuine British mega-star and genuine lovely bloke too.

About 2018, Will decided to combine his passion for performing with his love of concerts and festivals.

Being a committed car-nut, Will gave an interview to GQ Magazine in 2019.

Cars. I collect cars. I blame my grandparents, they were huge car enthusiasts and so is my mother. My mother drives, effectively, a supercar, which is hysterical. She’s got a Nissan GTR. I quite like Eighties, Nineties cars – so I’ve got a mark three Golf GTI, which is literally what all the rich people drove so now I’ve got one of those I feel my teenage self is sated. I’ve got a mark two Escort XR3i, I’ve got a MkII Bedford van, I’ve got a 1956 Mercedes SL190, I’ve got a Blackbird motorbike, which is the second fastest road bike. And I am about to buy a Fiat Abarth” (Credit GQ Magazine)

What better idea could there be than to mix his love of performing and his love of cars. He decided to devise a festival/disco bus, as you do! Add to the bus a removable top and he could perform wherever he wanted and whenever he liked.

At a seminal moment like this he decided there was only one classic van that would do the trick. Enter stage left, a Bedford CF 250 to take the starring part. A cunning plan was hatched.

The plan was to build a bus –  CSK Automotive in Buntingford were chosen to bring the vision to life.

The original Bedford CF was refurbished inside and out and finished in Will’s chosen colour scheme. Images can be seen in our Image Gallery aswell as on CSK Automotive’s Facebook page

It is understood the original plan changed a good few times as often happens throughout any re-build. The end result enables a more camper feel and the removable roof idea fell victim to pragmatism! Ultimately the concept was retained but a more practical option was installed. A new roof was sourced from a VW Camper company in Cornwall to allow for more head space in the van and a sunroof was installed for extra light and air. Will can testify having taken it to many festivals throughout the years that it works.

At the time the build was described as a  ‘better than new, restored, fabulous “disco” bus.’

Our view

What a lovely piece of history. The charming Bedford CF, currently owned by a genuine British A-lister.

The passage of time has turned the ‘better than new’ into a ‘needs improving’ Bedford, but it is perfectly useable as it is. Images are of course in our Gallery, but do give us a call as well if you’d like more info.

The Bedford CFs are a very popular classic, seriously diminishing in numbers now. With celebrity ownership, this one is an enticing proposition.

It is supremely practical. Can you imagine getting out to festivals and events in this! What a joy.

The new owner could of course take the opportunity to convert it further into a very comfy camper with a few more creature comforts.

Just make sure the tunes you’re banging out are Will Young songs though!

Good luck bidding! Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
