The Delta HF Turbo’s combination of a lightweight body, a turbocharged engine and perfectly well balanced chassis made it one of best performing hot hatches of the ‘80s.

Because of their propensity to dissolve after prolonged contact to what we call Summer in the UK, some suggest the numbers of these Lancia’s has diminished to less than 50.

This one stands out for all the right reasons.

History and Paperwork

Our vendor thought this Lancia Delta was so good he has owned it twice. He originally owned it in 2017. Along came an offer that was too good to refuse and he took it, but regretted it. When he saw it again on a Facebook Group, he knew he had to have back in his garage. With too many cars and too much work on, it is on the market again.

Outside

This Lancia Delta came from an era when Lancia were synonymous with Martini sponsorship. To find one in Black coachwork with Martini livery is rare treat.

Our vendor thinks it has had remedial paintwork at some stage in its life, that is understandable. If there was a niggle with the paintwork, it is something you cannot detect from the images but only at an eyeball inspection from very close up. When our vendor bought the Delta HF Turbo for the second time it had been under a cover and at some time probably ‘sweated’. That has left some micro-dots on the roof, which can only be seen from inches away.

The panel fit and alignment on the Lancia shows nothing that rings alarm bells. It all looks consistent and original.

It has the benefit of Integrale bonnet and Integrale alloys. It does look very sharp.

Inside

Drop into this Lancia and instantly you realise that the Delta HF Turbo’s were something special.

The upgraded Recaro Integrale seats are soft and comfortable. They do take you back to a time when sports seats felt right, before ‘legislation’ took over. The matching door cards appear unmarked. We’re advised that the front electric windows work. The lining on the sunroof section only has gone a bit soft, but the main headlining is fine.

The matching rear seats and door cards are even better, they appear to be barely marked and beautifully conserved.

The yellow-on-black six dial dash gives all the information you’ll ever need and as you can see is in good condition. Two more gauges, for oil pressure and temperature, sit to the left of the main instrument binnacle. An Integrale three-spoke ‘Momo’ steering wheel sits in front of them. The Italians do know how to build emotion into a classic, the whole package does make you feel a little bit special.

We are told that everything works as it should.

Mechanicals

  • 1.6-litre turbocharged inline-four
  • 138bhp
  • Front wheel drive
  • Five speed manual ‘box

In essence, the HF Turbo was the front-wheel drive version of the later HF Turbo 4WD, which went on to morph into the Integrale and Evo models.

The Lancia Delta has Independent McPherson struts with anti-roll bar at the front and coil springs/anti-roll bar at the rear. Stopping power is provided by four wheel discs, vented at the front.

With an intercooled Garrett Turbo on the 1585cc Lancia twin cam, The Lancia was good for 130 bhp at 5600 rpm and 141 lbf.ft very low down at 3700 rpm. In the Delta shell weighing just 1000 kg this meant to 121 mph and 0-60 mph in 8.0 seconds.

When we asked our vendor what this Delta HF Turbo was like to drive he said, simply, “amazing”. Bear in mind he owned it twice, he should know.

Bottom line.

When did you last see another one?

The early Delta HF cars is where it all began to happen for Lancia. The Evo’s get all the attention but these Delta Turbos with their nimble handling and punchy delivery are in many ways the ones to have

A Delta is a rarity in any form. Even in Italy they are seldom seen. A Lancia Delta HF Turbo in Martini colours is even rarer, some experts suggest around 150 were built.

Today many are in collections or tucked away in pension pots. If you can find one; grab it. Good luck bidding!

Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
