Description

  • Unrestored, unmodified original condition
  • Verified mileage of 72,340
  • Original sales invoice
  • Service History

Background

The Toyota Supra A70, launched in 1986 and was something different altogether. In an era when large twin-cam engines, multi-link suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and limited-slip differentials were the preserve of Italian supercars, this Toyota had it all. And more.

History and Paperwork

  • Mrs S purchased the Toyota Supra from new in 1992
  • Kenneth Wright (Son of Mrs S) took ownership in 2002
  • Paul Wright (Son of Mrs S) took over from his brother in 2009
  • 72,340 miles, verified by both service and MOT records
  • Service history from original dealer with some specialist history too
  • Good history file
  • The Private Number Plate valued at £400 is staying with the Supra
  • Serviced by the same technician for over 10 years

Mechanicals

  • 2,954cc, 24-valve, twin-cam, in-line-six cylinder 7M-GE (non turbo) engine
  • Producing 200 bhp
  • 4-speed A340E automatic gearbox
  • All totally standard

All four corners of the Toyota Supra have double wishbone suspension, the upper arms are made from forged aluminium. The suspension links were attached to subframes to minimise vibrations entering the cabin.

The mellifluous in-line-six cylinder engine in this Supra is the sort that puts a grin on your face. The big Grand Tourer coupé’s engine delivers 200bhp, to the limited slip differential driving the rear wheels. Coupled to the excellent four speed auto ‘box it is a treat to drive.

Just looking at this Supra you can see that it has been looked after. The original selling dealer’s service stamps and history file backs all that up. The engine is clean, tidy and most importantly free of modifications. Our vendor has included the cam belt kit too.

The whole package from Toyota is hugely impressive. With an ability to devour fast, sweeping A-Roads or glide effortlessly on motorways, the A70 Supra was more a GT than a tightly wound sports car and much better for it. The result is a great classic car that steers precisely, is nicely balanced, grips well, and comes with the wonderful sound of that naturally aspirated twin-cam straight-six, revving joyously to 6,500 rpm.

Inside

  • Original Dove Grey/Forest Green upholstery
  • Electric windows and mirrors
  • Air-conditioning

Inside, this Toyota Supra is magic.  Clichés such as ‘time-warp, etc. we try to avoid. But look for yourself.

The two-tone velour seats  are super adjustable and super comfy too, just as a fast Grand Tourer should be. Toyota’s superior quality of materials and workmanship really do shine through on this Supra .

Grey carpeting runs throughout the interior space.

In the Gallery, close up images show the condition of the clocks and gauges.

Toyota’s legendary build quality means as a useable classic, the Supra is brilliant. As a weekend getaway Grand Tourer it is perfect. Under that large rear hatch, there’s a surprisingly large and very practical luggage area, trimmed out in dark grey carpet. The boot is dry, despite light condensation in one rear lamp lens.

The originality is here in spades too. This Supra has a full-size spare wheel, the original tool roll and  jack. It all looks as if it’s never been used.

Outside

  • Metallic Gunmetal Grey
  • Unrestored, unmodified and genuine
  • Alloy wheels

The Supra was engineered by a person who is a bona fide legend, mostly recognized for his later role as the Chief Engineer of the Lexus brand. Yukihiko Yaguchi’s hands are all over the A70. But while Yaguchi was busy, prodding the car along, he was also laying the groundwork for what would eventually be the Lexus.

The Supra bridged the gap between sports car and practical Grand Tourer superbly and it has stood the test of time. The external trim, glass areas, body and bumpers are all very good. We saw no evidence of cracking, damage or significant blemishes. All of the badging is present and correct too.

Additional information

This is what our vendor said about this Supra.

Toyota Supra Mk3 3.0i Automatic non turbo. Family owned from new comes with original bill of sale. Remarkable condition for a car that has not been restored and never been played with.

I am the current owner since 2009 and I have only covered 5000 miles in that time. This Supra is all original.

It had aftermarket TSW alloys fitted when car was first purchased in 1992. It has had a cd radio fitted with blue tooth. The mileage is 72,000 and totally genuine and can be seen by the history that comes with the car.

There are some bits that will need some attention rear brake back plates are starting to corrode but does not affect car. It has the original Toyota tool kit as shown. This is a totally original car. The seats are showing signs of sun damage but only colour, no rips or tears. All the door cards are A1. The carpets are all good as you can see. The video shows engine runs very quiet. A lovely 90s classic that can be driven. MoT expires November 2023 – it passed in November 2022 with no advisory notes.”

Bottom line

If you’re searching for a Supra, then this is it. This is the one you want. It ticks all the boxes.

Owned by one family from new throughout its life. Genuinely low mileage that can be verified. Very good service history. And absolutely no gimmicky modifications. This Toyota Supra is a very rare survivor. With provenance like this, it is extremely unusual.

This has the added bonus of a very sensible vendor who has set a very sensible reserve. Do not hang about. Good luck bidding.

Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Vehicle Location: Hickstead, West Sussex RH17 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
