History and paperwork

The Soft Light Grey Montana Leather seats are all in good condition and the carpet and leather trimmed door cards are in equally decent order.

The optional BMW Leather Sports Steering still looks good. As you can see the dash is free from cracks and sun damage, with optional passenger side air bag fitted. Inside the boot is very clean and is carpeted throughout.

A nice touch is the period mobile phone holder complete with phone – that could probably still be made to work. Which is more than can be said for a modern iPhone once it gets to 18 months!

Outside

• Beautifully finished in BMW metallic Montreal Blue
• Electrically operated matching Royal Blue hood in good condition
• The rear screen looks so good, we suspect that it is new-ish
• BMW parking sensors at the rear
• Immaculate rear arches

This 328i is in remarkable condition and does look very good. Is there any better looking four-seater convertible with the roof down, windows down, headrests up? Probably not for the money, no.

The condition suggests it has been looked after very well. We’ve not been advised of any dents or significant damage on the BMW. We’re sure if we looked hard enough on any 28-year-old classic we’d find something, but from the images and the description from the vendor, it looks very clean and tidy. Our vendor was keen for us to tell you: “Very importantly the wheel arches are excellent”.

The original BMW 16” Type 30 alloys are in good condition. All glass, fixtures, fittings, lights and exterior trim look good too. To say that this classic has endured 28 British Summers, it does look rather good. It says a lot about BMW build quality.

The straight six 328i engine matched to the renowned BMW automatic box with switchable driving modes is a perfect combination for any situation.

Bottom Line

The 3 Series was the benchmark back in the day and the E36 convertible is still a great car by any standard.

The build quality is excellent. The design is timeless. And the performance from the chassis, suspension and the 24v straight-six engine is sublime. This one has clearly been looked after and lasted very well. There are still a few of these around. It is uncommon to find one this good. If you’ve been looking for a good one, you’ve probably found it. Go on, you know you want to.
