  • Rare Edition

  • Detachable hard top

In a throwaway age where everyone has five minutes of celebrity fame, icons, legends and classics are man-made overnight. At Jeep, they see things differently.

In 1938, the spec for a ‘light reconnaissance vehicle’ resulted in the Willys Jeep. The modern heir to Willys Jeep is today’s Jeep Wrangler. It’s heritage tracks directly back through the CJ Series (Civilian Jeep) to its WWII ancestor.

In great condition for its age, this rare edition YJ Series Jeep Sahara should not be missed. The hard top means it can be used all year round, combining a style and utility that few classics can match.

History

  • With our vendor Peter for over 6 years
  • V5 Present and correct
  • MOT to October 2023

Prior to Peter’s ownership, the Jeep was owned by Knight Racing Team who did their own servicing. Since Peter has owned it he has given the Jeep a full service every 6 months. He is an award winning mechanic so he knows what he’s doing!

He has some paperwork including old MOTs and various invoices for parts including new radiator, starter motor and water pump.

Inside

Trims varied and include base S and SE, and scarce top spec Jeep Sahara as we have here.

The interior is very good. The Sahara-specific upholstery is in great shape, as is the Sand coloured wall-to-wall carpet .

A lockable centre console was introduced on the Sahara and the rear bench seat, which is in good condition, was made wider than before.

The top of the range Sahara featured a removable hardtop. The well-engineered unit, has glass side and rear windows, heated rear screen and rear wash wipe. The Sahara also gained Forest Green and Sand ‘trailcloth’ seat fabric, leather covered adjustable steering wheel, and rear seat saddlebags.

The Sand coloured four dial dash is clean and very tidy. The matching colour coded, padded roll-over bar is a neat feature.

Outside

In its Silver with Gold detailing, this Jeep Sahara does look good. Whilst the Jeep could go anywhere, this example shows no external signs of being battered and bruised. We’re told by Peter that there is no corrosion and no welding.

You’ll see from the Gallery our vendor has used it in all weathers. It’s clear that it’s a distinctive and wonderfully practical classic.

  • Excellent commanding driving position
  • All round great visibility
  • Five spoke alloys all-round with matching tyres
  • Glass, lamps, bumper are all in good order
  • Dual socket tow bar fitted
  • Front driving lamps

Mechanicals

Jeep were keen to retain the core essence of the original Willys. However, the Wrangler series and the Sahara in particular was specifically redesigned to be safer and more comfortable on-road. Upgrading the Jeep’s suspension, drivetrain, and interior, proved to be a great success. Just one of the many reasons why the Jeeps remain such a sought after classic car.

  • Five speed gearbox
  • 4.0-litre straight-six engine
  • 180bhp
  • 0-60 in 8.5secs
  • MOT’d to 30th October 2023

Peter tells us that it drives very well, accelerating smoothly, stopping quickly and shifting through all the gears without fuss. In fact it’s a reluctant sale, but Peter needs to let the Jeep find a new home.

There are two distinct necessities which make a good off road vehicle – composure on the tarmac and confidence inspiring off-road motoring. The Jeep Wrangler Sahara strikes a good balance. Acceleration in the 4.0-litre models is vivid. O-60mph is reached in 8.5 seconds. If you push the Jeep, it’s composed manner means it is entirely possible to arrive at corners carrying more speed than the Wrangler is equipped to deal with! It is great fun.

Our view

These are becoming a very uncommon sight now. Due to the rugged build quality, scarcity and all-round fun factor values are starting to creep up.

Whether the hard top is on or off, the distinctive style of the Jeep especially in Sahara livery is a fantastic looking classic.

It will cope with anything you can throw at it. This one is ready to roar away and have some great Summer fun in. You’ll regret it if you miss it. Good luck bidding.

Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Vehicle Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne NE12 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

Viewings are welcome, Peter has advised that the Jeep can be test driven at Eshott Airfield near Morpeth if required.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
