Description

The last of the GSX-R limited edition bikes were released from the 1st of June 2010 as the 25th anniversary GSX-R1000 became available for reservation only.

With just 25 bikes coming to the UK out of only 1,000 being built worldwide, this unique model features a bespoke white colour-scheme with special GSX-R anniversary logos, numbered top yoke plaque, Yoshimura 25th anniversary exhaust cans with engraved end plates, laser-etched wheel rim graphics and a certificate of authenticity.

Background

  • First registered 12th July 2010
  • Only one owner
  • Original Suzuki Letter of Authenticity
  • Original sales invoice
  • Original application form stamped by dealer

Originally applied for from his local Suzuki dealer, Rocket Centre Blackburn, our vendor managed to buy the very first example released to the public, being the number two bike, we have the second most sought after example of these special edition bikes.  Suzuki will almost certainly have kept bike number one for their own collection so you could argue it is actually the most sought-after example full stop.

Delivered with the special edition etched Yoshimura exhaust pipes fitted but also supplied with the standard pipes which have never been fitted and will be supplied with the bike in their unopened box.

Our vendor shared that the first service was carried out before the bike was pretty much stored in his garage on a battery optimiser until now.  We say pretty much, as our vendor has periodically started and ridden the bike for a few short miles at a time so as to keep it running and in tip top condition.  This also explains the minimal miles showing on the odometer – just 1013 miles.

You will literally be bidding on the bike as it came out of the factory, with both keys, all the books, that aforementioned boxed standard exhaust and all the original purchase paperwork.

The Bike

  • Special Pearl paintwork
  • Special Gold logo colour
  • Laser-processed pinstripe “25th Anniversary Edition” on rims of front and rear wheels
  • Special graphic “25th Anniversary Edition” on both right and left special edition Yoshimura exhausts
  • Serial number 2 plate on the yoke
  • 2x Ignition keys with special GSX-R logo colour

The 25th-anniversary motorcycle came in 2010 with only 1,000 produced worldwide and 25 to the UK. As listed it comes in a special Metallic Matt Titanium Silver and Pearl Mirage White colour. The familiar red R logo is instead coloured gold and the words 25th Anniversary Edition appear on the exhausts and in the striping on the cast aluminium front and rear rims.

Our vendor also explained that he has had the bodywork professionally fitted with “3M Venture Sheild” paint protective clear film so is literally blemish free.

Jumping onto the power department, at its core a 998cc four-stroke four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that developed an output power of 182 hp at 12,000 rpm and 86 lb-ft of torque with a peak at 10,000 rpm. Combined with a six-speed transmission and a wet weight of 452 lbs, the bike will fly to a top speed of 186 mph.

The bike features fully adjustable race-developed suspension while the braking power was handled by two 310 mm discs with four-piston callipers on the front wheel and a 220 mm disc with a hydraulic calliper on the rear wheel.

All in all, it is a serious bike in standard form, even better when it is such a special edition such as this.

Summary

Upon consigning this special bike the age old argument, of whether or not a rare or special classic like this should be driven or stored, raised its head again. After hours of discussion, or should that be disagreement, bickering and arguing, I won saying it should be ridden. Well, I convinced myself I won anyway but you can make your own mind up whether I did or not.

Agreed, the bike is so special that maybe it should be tucked away by a collector and left to appreciate in a collection but I just can’t bring myself to agree as it is also that special a bike that it would be a shame not to use and enjoy the phenomenal ability that the GSXR was built to deliver.

Whoever you agree with, this GXSR1000 is a very special bike indeed and ultimately it will be for the winning bidder to decide what they do with it.  What we do know is that being the number two bike it will still appreciate whatever they choose.

We are just proud to offer it at auction, as you won’t see these come to market very often.  A very special and rare thing indeed.

Vehicle Location: Blackburn, Lancs BB2 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.
