Social Auto Luxury Tours (SALT) take place every June in a different part of the country each year
We last toured Cheshire and the North West on SALT 7 in 2013, for the sixteenth edition we invite you to join us back in the county to tour the region’s Cold War history and industrial heritage.
A SALT tour is unlike a typical IFA Club event. From the event’s base at a luxury hotel our tourists follow well mapped routes to museums, bunkers, and other attractions. All Tourists receive a goody bag which includes a rally plaque, a tour book, touring notes and route plans and other surprise gifts. Tourists gather on Saturday evening for a gala dinner with a guest speaker.
Our base for 2024 is the Forest Hills Hotel, Overton Hill, Frodsham, in the heart of beautiful Cheshire countryside. Camping and budget accommodation options are available nearby.
• Friday we tour to the former RAF airfield at Hooton Park, Cheshire where the Hooton Park Trust will give Tourists a tour of the airfield that was last operational in the 1950s including discovering the base’s Cold War history.
• Saturday we tour to the Ministry of Supply’s Valley Works in the Alyn Valley at Rhydymwyn, Northeast Wales. This former top secret World War Two munitions bunker was home to research on the first atomic bombs and has a significant Cold War history. Our visit will include a tunnel tour. Saturday rounds off with the gala dinner with guest speaker Ian Sanders, producer of the award-winning Cold War Conversations podcast.
• Sunday we tour to Plumley, an area that holds a special secret! Followed by a drive on to the Avro Heritage Museum where SALT 16 will conclude.
As always SALT 16 promises to be a great weekend with plenty of Cold War cars, great people and some cracking visits.
There are a few places left so get your diary out and get booked.The Entry Fee for SALT 16 is £70 per vehicle (including driver, one passenger, route books, rally plaque, etc.). Extra passengers cost £20 per person.
Entrance fees to the attractions are payable by individuals on the day – costs are indicated on the Salt 16 booking form.
The Gala Dinner will be £40 per head. Nearer the time of the event, we will send you the menu asking for menu options and payment.
