History
The Dodge 50 Series, later known as the Renault 50 Series, were light commercials produced in the UK by Chrysler Europe and later Renault Véhicules Industriels between 1979 and 1993.
The Series used the same cab as the American Dodge B series vans, however they were modified to cater for European regulations and included a wide range of chassis and body configurations, including two distinctly different cab designs, These models spanned the 3,500–7,500 kg revenue weight range and various engines were offered.
This Dodge 50 Recovery Truck is a 4×4 6600kg model with a 6 cylinder 3.6 litre petrol engine
A rare vehicle now, being the 4×4 model, as few of these built, and this particular Dodge 50 has had very little use. Used mostly for local police recovery in the Devon area back in the 80s/90s as the previous owner had the contract for this work.
Inside
A utilitarian design, with 2 front seats and a rear bench seat in the cab area that can double up as a sleeping cab if needed, all looks to be in good order.
The drivers seat has a few tears on the vinyl but they’re relatively easily remedied. We’re advised that “everything works as should including the power steering.”
Outside
Looking very smart in white with Michael Tucker Recovery livery, this 3 former owners Dodge 50 Recovery Truck was previously yellow, but had a colour change back in 1990.
We’re told that the chassis is solid with no rust and although it has been standing for “several years”, it started first time.
Our vendor Jack has advised the following about this Dodge Recovery Truck:
“I went to it and it fired straight up and runs perfectly. As it’s been stood, the brakes could do with a service as I expect they may be binding.
Been dry stored all it’s life in heated workshop. Solid chassis no rust. Has been test driven up the road a short distance through all gears.
I have a point of contact that would assist with delivery on a low loader if needed.
Due to size and weight it will not be able to be collect on your normal car trailer.”
The Dodge 50 Recovery Truck is not currently MOT’d – “it ran on a recovery licence and therefore was MOT exempt” but since the law changes back in 2018/19, the truck will now need an MOT.
Regarding paperwork, it appears that the Dodge was serviced in-house by the previous owner, as such, there is no paperwork to back up servicing or to warrant the mileage showing on the odometer as 10,445 miles.
Our View
These Dodge trucks have a wide appeal. They can be used for a variety uses, as show trucks, marketing your business or for commercial purposes. And because all of those uses are interchangeable, we always get a good interest in these. Our vendor has reserved this Dodge 50 Recovery Truck very sensibly.
Vehicle Location: Torrington, Devon EX38 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.
