Description

The Minor is one of the most popular cars ever created and there is no sign of that popularity diminishing. It is near the top of many classic car buyers’ wish lists. Throw in superb club and specialist support plus its enduring appeal and it is easy to see why.

Background

The Morris Minor made its debut back in 1948. It rightly established itself as a benchmark. The last Minor drove off the production line 23 years later in 1971. The Series II models, launched in 1952, combined all the original design purity of the ’48 original. The simple yet elegant dashboard. The split windscreen and, of course, ‘cheese grater’ grille. The numbers of these early ‘50s cars are dropping now. That is increasing their desirability.

History

This is an early example of a 1953 Morris Minor Series II saloon. This is one of two Morris’s we have from the same vendor. They form part of a larger collection of classics that are coming to market.

The Morris has been dry stored in a collection since 2022 and little used. The collection is maintained by one mechanic who carries our regular day-to-day work on all the vehicles.

  • First registered 8 July 1954
  • Our vendor’s brother owned this for ten years
  • Owned by our vendor since 2022
  • Dry stored in a collection

It has been kept in good order with the intention of keeping as original as possible.

Inside

  • Clean, tidy condition
  • Maroon seats with white piping
  • Tartan Red carpet
  • Original art deco dash
  • Marble Grey steering wheel

The interior keeps the elegant original simplicity imagined by the genius of Issigonis. The dashboard is a model of art deco design.

The Maroon seats are in great shape; the minimal use has preserved them well.

The Morris comes with a matching Tartan Red carpet set which is in very neat condition.

Pop up the boot lid and you’ll see from the Gallery, the space is all as it should be, including the original tool kit and wood.

Outside

  • Gloss Black paintwork with red pinstripe
  • Black steel wheels with chrome hubcaps
  • Additional indicators
  • Cheese grater style grille

The exterior chrome fittings, boot & bonnet hinges, front and rear bumpers and bonnet mascot are all in respectable condition, as you can see. It is not that common to see Morris Minors finished in gloss Black. It sets off the Maroon interior very well. Overall, the effect is rather striking.

The original semaphore-type indicators work and are a terrific feature.

Mechanicals

  • Fitted with a later A-Series engine
  • New Battery

Climb in, clasp that lovely steering wheel. Flick the ignition key to the right and the starter motor collides with the flywheel with that unmistakable high pitched metallic clang and the A-Series turns over and springs into life with a distinct soft burble and a short rasp from the exhaust. Depress your right foot and give the engine some gentle revs as you push the choke in a little. The whole five seconds is an experience. The engine settles after a few moments and contentedly gets on with its job.

The engine bay itself hasn’t escaped the attention of the careful ownership. It all looks very good.

The engine is clean and dry. Many original features have been preserved as you can see. We don’t always see this level or period of originality.

Our view

Charming, charismatic and fun, bags of it. Piloting a Minor really is one of life’s true pleasures.

Good to drive, brilliant parts and specialist back-up. A-series powered ones are easily tuned but don’t lose that classic exhaust note.

Vehicle Location: Angus, Dundee DD2 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendors.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So, we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at team@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to get back to you, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important, and we are here to help and answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images, please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
