1954. A time where craftsmanship, design and passion reigned supreme over wind tunnels and bean counters. Welcome to the MG TF.

The 1954 MG TF is a symbol of MG’s rich history. It was the final iteration of the celebrated T-Series, introduced in 1953 as a successor to the MG TD. The TF combined classic design elements with improved performance.

History and background

Currently the engine does NOT START. It is being sold at NO RESERVE.

We don’t have a deep background about this MG TF. It belonged to our vendor Terry’s brother-in-law, who has sadly passed. He drove it and tinkered regularly. He drove it in to the garage to do some fettling. We understand he removed the bonnet for access. He also removed the gearbox cover, possibly to check the oil level? He also removed the air filters to tinker. And that is how it is today.

  • Manufactured in 1954
  • Owned since 2018
  • Chassis number HDC 162583
  • It comes with a box file of history

Terry does know about vehicles, he has a few himself. He has little knowledge of these particular models and is reluctant to meddle further. He boosted the battery and had it turning over. We have ignition/spark arriving at the plugs. But no fuel. The plugs when removed were dry, not flooded. That is all we have. Several attempts to find mobile mechanics to pop around have proved utterly futile. It now must go.

Outside

The MG TF is a masterpiece of automotive design. Its sleek silhouette, flowing lines, radiate timeless class. The lengthened bonnet, the chromed accents, the period steel wheels; every detail captures the essence of a bygone era of classic motoring.

  • Red coachwork
  • The Beige hood and weather kit is new
  • Chrome luggage rack
  • Chrome wire wheels

There are some lovely period touches which add to an already smashing looking MG. Items such as the two side and wing mirrors. A lovely package.

Inside

The 1954 MG TF’s elegance and craftsmanship take centre stage inside.

  • Beige interior
  • Three original octagonal MG shaped clocks
  • The two ‘sports’ seats have matured nicely and look very inviting
  • Original three spoke steering wheel. It isn’t often they survive
  • The vinyl door trims are in good condition
  • Full hood and weather kit

The TF sits relatively low to the tarmac the way proper sports cars do. The improved driving position and increase in length and elbow room in the TFs make the whole driving experience rather enjoyable.

Mechanicals

The mechanical components of the MG TF are a testament to engineering excellence. Under the bonnet lies a spirited four-cylinder engine, delivering a blend of control and responsiveness. The manual gearbox enhances the driving experience. Albeit this one doesn’t currently start!

The suspension, tuned for agility and comfort, ensures a smooth and enjoyable ride. The MG TF offers a delightful, ‘old school’ connection between driver and road.

  • 1250cc
  • Four cylinder
  • Twin SU carbs
  • The higher ratio 4.9:1 final drive means longer journeys are much more pleasurable

The engine bay is in good condition. The overall impression suggests this MG has been carefully cared for.

Summary

This automotive masterpiece, the 1954 MG TF, serves as a tangible link to the rich history of classic British motoring. It embodies an era where craftsmanship, elegance, and happiness naturally coexisted. With every touch, every glance, and every turn of the key, the MG TF invites you to become part of its illustrious story—a story of passion, beauty.

We know the MG drove in to the garage. We understand there was no catastrophic mechanical failure. Images of the engine in the Gallery support that.

We don’t know why it isn’t firing. But we do know these are simple cars.

At No Reserve this is great opportunity, surely?

Vehicle Location: Crowthorne, Berkshire RG45 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendors.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So, we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at team@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to get back to you, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important, and we are here to help and answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images, please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
