  • Lovely interior
  • Long ownership
  • Good condition
  • Drives well
  • Perfect summer classic

One of the most versatile British classics cars, the MG Midget.

A joy to drive, lovely to live with, easy to use, the Midget is the ultimate all-rounder. Bags of fun and fantastic value too.

Background

The MG Midget can trace its heritage back to the Austin-Healey Frogeye Sprite. The same fabulous classic car that brought sports car motoring to the British public in 1958. In 1961 the Austin-Healey Sprite Mk2 arrived, and with it the MG badged Midget.

The final version of the MG Midget arrived 1974 with the launch of the Midget 1500. Along with the uprated engine the other significant update was energy absorbing bumpers front and rear.

History

  • First registered 18 May 1979
  • With our vendor since 2016
  • In that time, it has covered c.400 miles per year
  • MOT exempt

Our vendor, Neil, tells us he has had a pre-MOT assessment carried out for the new owner and he tells us “The assessment shows the MG’s condition and safety to be A1”. That will give some peace of mind to the new owner.

Mechanicals

  • Twin Carbs
  • 1500cc engine
  • Four speed manual gearbox
  • Alloy rocker box cover

The MG Midget mechanicals don’t get any simpler. Added to that, there is a massive owner’s club community and probably the largest number of parts suppliers of any classic car.

The 1500cc engine in the last-of-the-line MG Midget has bags of torque and pushes out just over 70bhp. That is more than enough to make for lively motoring

The engine bay is clean and tidy. It looks like a new coil and leads have been fitted recently and the whole area gives the impression of a looked after MG.

Outside

The Midget is Black. This one also has a professionally fitted Metallic Black wrap too. You’d be forgiven for not noticing, we didn’t either until Neil told us.

It looks good and has the added benefit of protecting the exterior of this classic from the British weather

At the rear we have a classic wood and chrome luggage rack. The hood is in good condition. The minimal chrome and brightwork on the black Midget all looks good.

Neil also tells us that a that there is a hard top that will go with the MG when it reaches reserve!

It is fitted with four powder grey Minilites, in good condition, which are not only unusual to see but set the Midget off perfectly.

Inside

  • Wooden sports steering wheel
  • Upgraded wooden dash
  • Red seats with black piping
  • Red carpet and door trims
  • Polished wooden gear knob
  • Two new mirrors ready to be fitted

The MG Midget is most fun blasting along B roads. The snug, sports interior suits that perfectly. Everything falls nicely to hand. You can blip up and down the short shift gear-change and the light steering makes the Midget a delight.

The inside is in great condition as you can see from the Gallery.

Additional information

This is what Neil has to say;

A 1979 MG Midget in excellent solid condition. The bodywork is black with a professional wrap in Metallic Black. I have 2 new door mirrors which aren’t on the photos.

As it doesn’t require an MOT I have had a pre MOT assessment done which shows its condition and safety is A1.

The 1500cc twin carb engine pulls well and the manual gearbox is smooth.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
