In 1955 the Ford Courier was marketed as America’s most distinctive and useful sedan delivery. They weren’t wrong. With its flow line styling and 102 cubic feet of load capacity, the Courier was exactly what Ford promised it to be. 

This 1955 Ford Courier was first registered in the UK on 1st July 2013. Sadly, any previous paperwork from the states has been misplaced, but it’s believed that originally the Courier was first registered and used by the Coroner’s Office, Long Beach, California.  

Finished in black and cream with matching interior, the Ford Courier is fitted with a straight six, with three on the tree. At some time during its life the engine and gearbox have been rebuilt, although there’s no paperwork to substantiate this. Our vendor assures us that it starts on the button and drives well.

Our vendor purchased this 1955 Ford Courier last year and during his ownership he’s made some light improvements: 

• Replaced door rubbers 
• Replaced rear window and windscreen rubbers 
• New tyres 
• New plugs, leads & points  
• New oil filter 
• Rewired 

Please do study the detailed photographs in the image gallery, you’ll see that the paintwork is in good condition with a few age-related marks. The vendor tells us that there are patches of surface rust, but no rot and the underside has been previously treated. He also added that the door windows and quarter lights would benefit from new rubbers.  

 Our View 

With a low volume of production numbers, the 1955 Ford Courier is a real rarity nowadays. We love it, of course, especially that side hinged rear door! Yes, it’s origins may be a little macabre, but what a great slice of American motoring history! Ready to load up, drive and display, this Courier is sure to turn heads for all the right reasons. Go on, dare to be different.
