The Jaguar XJ6 Sports saloons were introduced in September 1994. Replacing the previous XJ40.

These new models were the first new cars to be produced under the Ford take-over in 1989.  They had significantly improved build technology and a huge dollop of the classic styling was carried over from the previous classic XJ6 models.

The Jaguar XJ6 model range were available as a ‘basic’ model, a more luxurious Sovereign version, and the range topping Sport version like this one here.

The new XJ’s outward similarity to the old one ended there. Underneath the curvaceous exterior there were huge number of positive improvements on the previous models:

  • A simpler bodyshell constructed from fewer panels
  • New advanced anti-corrosion technology
  • Increased passenger and luggage space
  • Revised suspension giving superior ride and handling

New six-cylinder engines replaced the long-running XK series, these were replaced by the AJ16 24-valve units of 3.2 and 4.0 litres capacity, both of which would find their way into the updated X300 Series introduced for 1995. The six-cylinder engine was the new AJ16, a much-modified version of the AJ6 engine used in the previous generation of Jaguars and gave stunning performance.

Our vendor tells us he was immediately attracted to the smart, tidy looks of this Jaguar XJ6. Two years on, he finds he has scarcely used the XJ6 because he is somewhat spoilt for choice by having other classics in his ownership. It is time for someone to own it who will use it.

We understand this Jaguar XJ6 Sport has:

  • A service history with 17 service stamps
  • A recently repainted bonnet and roof
  • Recent new brake pads all round and new tyres fitted
  • Original wallet and handbooks plus 2 keys
  • A new Steering rack and power steering pump.
  • New ball joints

And it is now simply parked in the garage – apart from when he got the car out to take pictures between showers.

The XJ6 looks to be clean and tidy in smart Carnival Red paint work. Inside the cream leather all looks okay. Under the bonnet the engine bay and engine looks clean

The nice number plate that is on the XJ is staying with it. The images in between rain showers probably do not do the this car justice!

Our view

A decade ago the you’d struggle to get five hundred quid for a big old X300. Jaguars do this, they drop like a stone, then bounce. Bought cheap by pub landlords and lower league football managers in sheepskin coats, they then transform from edgy used car to bon-fide classics, owned and loved by genuine enthusiasts for the Jaguar brand. The E-type is a classic example.

Well put together with a stonking engine, these are essentially good sleeper classics that live in the shadow of others.

A  nice Jaguar XJ6 is one of the best bank accounts you can have. What’s the point of having cash doing nothing in the bank when it could be sitting in one of the fastest-appreciating classics of the moment, that also just so happens to be a great car to drive? And this one is realistically reserved to sell.

Good luck bidding, and do call or email if you have any questions about this XJ6.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
