The Bentley Brooklands Mulliner R – the ‘R’ stood for roadholding and with a 6.75-litre turbocharged V8 engine it was no surprise it was dubbed “Crewe’s missile”. The Brooklands R Mulliner takes everything from the already fantastic Brooklands and adds a heap of extra styling, power and luxury, making these limited edition Bentleys something truly special.

When our vendor purchased the Bentley it came with a warranted 75,000 miles. It now has 82,000 miles.

Compared to the standard Brooklands R, the Limited Edition Mulliner had a number of upgraded features.

The turbo R is imposing in rare LWB form but no wider than an average modern SUV. The thin pillars and plentiful glass give great all-round visibility. In much the same way that proper British automobiles were built from the outset, Bentleys were hand-built cars. The classic lines and meticulous build put the car solidly into the executive class, yet the performance of the Brooklands R is up there in the sporting class.

This Bentley still manages to shift this huge Gentleman’s Express at a surprisingly rapid pace. It’s unseemly to drive a car like this hurriedly of course. But you can’t beat it. Most of the time, you’ll be content to glide around as the four-speed automatic gearbox slides imperceptibly from ratio to ratio. If you push the Brooklands R you can hear the engine, it sounds a like a thunderstorm happening fifty miles away.
